slomarao 04-01-2005, 08:02 PM I am looking for people who have a radar for 100-150 dollars that you think is good. I used to have a passport solo s2 but it didn't save me from a 89 in a 65. So i sold to a friend, now I want one, but don't want to spend 450 for a new V1. let me know what works for you guys.
JaysGone 04-01-2005, 10:08 PM  Cheap radar?? Its called keep your foot off the gas pedal.
1quikZ 04-01-2005, 10:15 PM I wouldnt mind getting one, but there illegal in canada, its like 1000 fine and confiscation (sp)

mr.nitrous 04-01-2005, 11:55 PM ive got the Escort X50......about $300 saved my ass so many times its not funny. Would recommend it to anyone
Grims 04-02-2005, 02:49 AM read some reviews, i chose the Bel RX65 retails for 300, got it on ebay for 200. Radar detector is somethin i just didnt want to cut corners on...a good one gives you little protection as it is...going cheap is almost pointless. Not to mention i hate that false sense of security feeling. www.speedzones.com is a good starting point for reviews. Also keep in mind if you have a dark colored firebird and you remove the front license plate lasers have a very very hard time reading you. You can actually get with in 50 feet before they can get a reading due to little reflective surfaces on a dark car with no plate or lights to reflect off of.
Compstall 04-02-2005, 03:31 AM Use your own two eyes, common sense, and intuition. Saved me tons of money, and my driving record is still clean...
BTW, the track is much cheaper than a radar detector.
Grims 04-02-2005, 01:54 PM yeh it is, 1/4 mile at a time. With any radar detector you have to keep your eyes open 75% of cops leave the radar off until they see you then flip it on...your only hope is there is someone in front of you blocking him from you giving you warnign to slow down...or you see him before he can flip it on and slow down.
slomarao 04-02-2005, 02:43 PM I know how to watch for cops on the highway, all you need to do is look ahead of you. But what I wanted to know if anyone has had luck with a cheapy. Like I stated before I am going to buy a valentine but I am in college so dropping 450 isnt an option at this point. I would like to grab something cheap for a little peace of mind but I guess I cant do that either.
Grims 04-02-2005, 03:36 PM V1s suck, their way behind. Just hunt ebay for a good deal on a nice RD

damn man chill out...he was just asking a question. Correct me if im wrong, but isnt the purpose of this forum to ask around and see whats the best out there?
2cub49 04-02-2005, 08:31 PM I've got the V1 in my Camaro however I've also got 49.95 Radio Shack non talking units in the 3 other vehicles I occasionally drive.
In my area almost every patrol car in the suburbs and outlying areas has rolling radar.
When a patrol car is moving the cop leaves it on all the time as instant on is kind of impractical.
The cheapies work just as well as the V1 for rolling radar in most instanses.
The V1 is more rugged and fancy and more sensetive over longer distances.
slomarao 04-02-2005, 09:31 PM I don't want this thread to be all flamed up with people's attitude. So if you want to comment on a radar, proceed, otherwise save it for someone else. thanks
My94T/A 04-03-2005, 01:29 AM I use this
http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/sr=2-1/qid=1112509634/ref=sr_2_1/602-6467475-8388641?%5Fencoding=UTF8&asin=B00023QQ62 I am a college student like yourself. And needed something cheap and something that works. I like it and I would recommend it.
Grims 04-03-2005, 04:02 AM please read that review on the site i posted, it has "benchmarks" for RD from the 100-200 dollar range.
