Saab’s awd future
The successor to General Motors’ worldwide Epsilon platform will come in front-, rear- and all-wheel-drive versions starting with 2009 production. A Saab source confirms this means the 9-3 and 9-5 will get all-wheel drive by late 2008 or early ’09.

Sounds like this could be a longitudinal engine mounting to have that versitility for only one platform.
Also it said successor to Epsilon not Epsilon 2. There could be 2 different successors.

That's the platform the Caddy BLS is on right? I thought when Lutz said about the next one being available here that they might be planning to make the platform RWD capable as to keep with Caddy's new direction.

Wow...that would be downright amazing. Its possible that the engine will be mounted like the LH cars of Chrysler.
I would like to see if Epsilon could get bigger and wider then its present set up. Malibu seems to be too narrow to keep up with teh Camry's of today. But I guess its good that the Impala has that, but lacks the interior room of a LWB Epsilon.
I hope it is true, but I have a feeling that the RWD part is a typo, or like 91_z28_4me said maybe they are refering to a second platform.
Epsilon 1.0 should have had AWD
