Caps94ZODG 03-26-2005, 12:29 AM Make all the chevy models look alike...like the ford models of the 80's...the
T-bird, Mustang, Taurus, Crown Vic all had the same theme to the front end, same wrp around headlights, same front grill with the ford emblem in it they all looked FORD...to me that is not good to do...do something that is 20 yrs old is thought...I think Dodge has it right with just the crosshairs grill being the same, but the front end is anything you desire...
try making diffrent models instead of something I noticed and looks really out of place..the Relay Terazza and Uplander all look identical except for the front clip and that looks like an after thought to spread ot along the 3 lines...
If they use the bowtie in everyhting thats ok..maybee with the bar..thats OK too since I like most of the stuff done already..but I think the start of this is the new Monte and impala...they look like the old 90's versions a little, is the chevy look going to be wrap around headlamps and a "U" shaped grill like in the newer Chevy cars and trucks?? :(
90 Z28SS 03-26-2005, 12:42 AM In case you havent noticed MANY automotive brands sucessfully use that concept .
BMW
Audi
Mercedes
Chrysler with the exception of 300
Ford
.....to name just a few more prominent ones .
It is a common design theme , not every car is gonna look exactly the same .
Chuck! 03-26-2005, 12:59 AM As long as the base design is good looking, I have no problem with them doing this. Cadillac is a perfect example.
If it's bad... look out below.
unvc92camarors 03-26-2005, 01:40 AM imo, it'll probably be a bad thing
just slap a bowtie on it, that'll get people to know it's a chevy
i fear the monte/impala is also the start of this...
SNEAKY NEIL 03-26-2005, 08:44 AM Just because all Chevys are to have a common design theme does not automatically mean they will all look alike. It depends how literal they take the common design theme. You can have some design cues that are to be used across the board but still allow for individually styled cars. For instance, they could use a circular tail light theme for each vehicle (kinda like they have now) but there is a wide range of possiblities within those constraints. I think this could also be applied to many other design elements.
I like the idea of a common design language throughout the world because it brings consistancy to thier vehicles across the world and I think creates a stronger image. After saying that, I too don't want to see all of thier vehicles look the same.
Kris93/95Z28 03-26-2005, 09:09 AM Ummm.... GM has been doing this for a while.
All Pontiacs & Cadillacs have the same grill treatment.
The Chevrolets have the same grill treatment as well.
Its called brand recgonition.
AxeGrinder30thZ 03-26-2005, 09:51 AM I was going to say, helloooo...BMW??? That's one of the reasons I can't stand BMW's...they all look alike. But at the same time, look how successful they are. I'm not afraid that GM's lineup will look identical, but I think it'll make a more recognizable car/brand, which hopefully all this will turn out good.

which is why people complain that all pontiacs look alike
and same for caddies
i can't stand the beamers either, all of them look exactly the same to me cept for the rear ends
with the way it was described in the article, this doesn't look good to me (chrome bar coming back, etc.)
guionM 03-26-2005, 01:50 PM Is GM going to do what Ford did in the 80s?
God, I hope so!
How quickly we forget that Ford DOMINATED the 1980s as far as US car manufactures. Not only did they do a 180 degree turnaround in quality (nearly matching foreign brands), not only did their performance cars blossom in ability and variety, they made at the time what seemed almost obscene amounts of money.
Oh, and by the way, they gave most of their cars the "jelly bean" look, except the Crown Vic & Marquis, the Town Car, and to a lesser extent, the Mustang, which all continued with 70s era design from "The School of Folded Paper". :)
I hope I'm not the only person that doesn't recall it that way. And did I just hear F*rd and quality in the same sentence?!
This whole making cars look similar thing is BS. When did Camaros and Corvettes ever look like anything else that Chevy had to offer? All you had to see was an emblem or name and you knew what it was. They didn't have to look like everything else.

4th gen Camaro, Geo Storm. Try to tell me that they did not look anything alike.
