Looks better but I still don't really like the looks of the new mustang. Hard to argue with that kind of performance though. Now let's see if they actually keep the price below 40k before the god awful dealer markup these cars will get.

Gotta say, the Shelby version is much better looking than the GT or Coupe. I guess it's just the small details they changed. Truthfully I wouldn't mind having one. I've always been diehard GM for performance, but with their current offerings that's all starting to change (SSR, GTO, Vette, the new el camino they've been talking about  ).

 Looks great! I never liked the new look of the mustangs, but the way they touched that up, it looks awesome! They painted the back bumper on the bottom black, sorta like the 02 ta's anniv. , and it makes the bumper not look so big. Makes me almost want to buy one, how much hp does that SC add?

MustangEater82

Likely more then I can afford but I dig the new GTs, but I still have a soft spot for the older ones the Mach Is are pretty sweet.

its going to be expensive though.. i bet in the end it will cost about as much as a C6, maybe a few thousand cheaper..

At that point, I rather get a C6 which is still a better car overall...

But its still a badass car. Kudos to Ford.

We'll just have to see exactly how much HP, how much weight, and how much money it'll actually be when it hits the showroom.

The fornt and the rear need work, in my opinion. The rear could be, well, not as sloped. A little straighter, something else with the taillights. Square out the front, with the hood and all......Ih

Whether you like the new body style or not Ford is making a statement. They care about performane and style. They are taking risks. Look at what Chrysler is doing with the 300, Magnum, and Charger. They may be big but have lots of balls and have unique styling. I'm even eying the mag / charger because I need a back seat big enough for three car seats.

What is GM doing? Not much. Yes I *love* the interior and power of the GTO but it is kind of plain on the outside. It is also a rebadged import. By killing the Zeta platform for a few years they are sending an opposite message: we only care about trucks, SUV's and rental car sedans. I actually think keeping the GTO as an import will be better for the car so it does not become "GM-ified" with the cheap-ass interior.

A coworker just got a new Acura TL (upscale Accord). Wow. The first time I sat in there all I could think is why can't GM do this. Kind of a shame.

That front end is just ugly. For my money, I would buy a new C6 and I just might do that in a year or two. It really is a shame that there is no Camaro because it would be great to see what Chevy would do.

Also, the whole "Shelby" thing just seems really lame. It is just a name tacked on to try and lure buyers and give it that extra retro flair that drives it over the edge. Isn't it true that Shelby had nothing to do with the development and testing of the car? I am sure it will work for them so I guess you can't blame them for doing it.

A lot of people are saying "who cares about a new Camaro" when they see the new Mustang. Love it or hate it, you cannot mistake it for any other vehicle on the road today. It has presence. It has cool. It has heritage. Even gearheads at GM like it. You have to give those folks from Dearborn their due when it comes to performance vehicles as of late.

i agree with you in concept

but GM isn't going to step up to the plate, they've already lost their foothold in the musclecar market, and quite frankly they don't seem to really care. all that keeps being said is TRUCKS are where the money is, while ford is laughing all the way to the bank by selling 200,000 mustangs in 2005.

i'm all for competition, in fact i wish there was competition, but no company wants to be in the musclecar market other than FORD and they've produced a steller product even though there are a good 4 or 5 people that say otherwise.

Sadly, I'd buy one. Looks to me are incredible...

I have one HUGE complaint with the GT500...

The stock boost gauge only goes to 15psi! Put 20psi on that motor! Comon!

Rumor of it costing the same as the 2004 Cobra (if True) will sell those things silly fast.

Gotta admit, Ford did it with the Mustang when they first released it over 40 years ago. Wanted to sell 100,000 in the first year. After riots at dealerships they ended up selling 600,000 within like 18 months.

Also, the mustang was the first car to have an "options list" as we know it today. And with the new styling?

If I wanted a 2+2 new car, I know the GTO performs better and has better build (after riding/driving/looking over both) but for sheer "bam!" asthetics and the feeling of looking at that in your garage? I'd take the Mustang over the GTO. Not the regular GT Mustang though... the GT500.

And yes. The man sitting behind the wheel. I wonder what he thinks of the new version?

no actually, i believe the year would be 1965 when the mustang had no competition against a camaro.

see, in 1968 there WAS a camaro being produced. i believe the year 1965 would be a much better year for your argument due to its lack of such a camaro.

More thoughts-

If a new "Z/28" Camaro looks that good - I'll buy both and leave them side by side in the garage for fun.

However....

In the last picture, anyone notice the 22mm Emergency Stop switch and the guages on the pillar with Shelby driving it?

gauges? Those I could understand. It's probably not stock. But the 22mm Red "Push to Engage, Twist to Release" switch? WTF?

Well, just a few complaints

1. the interior isn't for me at all

2. WTF is up with those seats? Those are totally unworthy of being in a $40,000 sports car. If this car does manage to handle, you're going to be holding on for dear life just to stay in your chair. Saturn Ions and Dodge Neons come with better seats than that.

It's a 5 spoke people! A very plain, generic and standard looking one at that. I think i've even seen one exactly like that on my sisters mid 90's Suzuki, Lol. Chevy did NOT invent the 5 spoke people.

Now the 10 spoke z06 look-a-like ones, those are pretty close and a more of a unique design, but if you look closely, the differences are apparant. Again people, Chevy didn't invent the 10 spoke either;).

The plus side to a factory boosted motor is it will have the supporting internals since the factory built it with the boost in mind:). That usually isn't the case with a N/A motor.
