I have a brand new 468 on the way with oval port heads and a Comp Cams 292H-10 cam installed already (.550/.550 292/292 duration 110 LSA).
It's coming minus an intake and I was wondering what you guys think would work best. It is going into the 79 in my sig. and is going to be alot more of a race car than a street car.
Dyno2000 shows that combo making 599HP @ 6500 and 563 Ft/Lbs at 5000 RPM's with a single plane intake.
Hood clearance isnt really an issue b/c its got a 4" glass cowl hood on it.

I wonder what the logic for the hyraulic cam vs. a solid lifter on a car more race than street. Ditto the oval port heads. But you should be looking at a max of ~6,500rpm (assuming the heads match the cam). There are certainly a lot of BBC intakes out there. But the Vic Jr. 454 would be a good choice among others.

Yeah there are only a couple of single plane Oval Port intakes.

Since it's going to be more of a race car than a street car, I also vote for the Victor Jr. It's a very good single plane manifold. For a street car with some track time, a good dual plane like the RPM Air Gap should be used. The Performer and Performer RPM are nice but are more designed for a daily driver.
I think you're going to need to move some numbers around with DD2000. The HP is way too high for that combination.

I was thinking Victor Jr. also, but I just wanted to see if anyone had used a different intake than that w/ good results.
about the heads/hydraulic cam...this 79 is mine and im gonna try to drag race it alot and i needed a motor to start out w/ to get used to the car,and practice b/c my dad wouldnt let me build a 600 HP motor to start out with. I know the oval port heads arent that great but the motor is brand new and already assembled w/ these parts on it so im just gonna go from there.
Thanks for the replys

Have you considered one of the "street" type of tunnel rams?
They're building them a lot smarter these days, with tighter runners for higher velocity and I have seen a number of surprising dyno comparisons.
Edelbrock & Weiand both make 'em for the Oval Port heads.

Nothing wrong with a good set of oval ports once some porting is done and some 2.19/1.88 valves are installed. My best results so far are with oval port heads. I destroyed a couple of 781 castings before buying some Merlins.
This year the engine has gone big. Big roller cam and rectangular port aluminum heads with big valves.
