scof0elife 03-21-2005, 12:25 AM Hello everyone, I need some ideas on how to add quick horsepower to my 2001 Camaro V6. I have added a Magna Exhaust and a SLP Cold Air Induction with a K&N Air Filter. Anyone know how many horses I added with those mods? Also please give me some ideas on how to add extra horsepower to my car (without chaning engines). Thanks everyone.
Black94Camaro 03-21-2005, 12:42 AM Cold Air 15 - 20HP
K&N Maybe 5HP
Could be wrong though.

way over estimated
15 hp MAX for full intake and exhaust (incl. hi flow cat)
Tru2Chevy 03-21-2005, 12:56 PM What kind of budget do you have, and how good are you with mechanics?
What do you use the car for? Auto or stick?

Black94Camaro 03-21-2005, 01:19 PM well i did say 15 :)
V8 Slayer 03-21-2005, 02:24 PM Well you already have Tubular Exhaust Manifolds on your car from the factory so thats a plus. The only thing I would say to get is a Performance Airlid.
Im not sure if its still needed or used with CAI's
For your car,I would NOT do these
Headers (Tubular Manifolds are great)
High Flow Cat (OBD II goes crazy)
Tuning (Need expensive custom tuning)
I would say your K&N , CAI and Exhaust added about 20 HP and a good amount of torque.

i agree with the above, except that 'sometimes' high flow cats will set the obd 2 computer on a wild crazy path of SES lights... but, mine has done me well, thus far *knock on wood*
scof0elife 03-21-2005, 05:15 PM Well as for my budget I can spend up to $500 to $1000 a month on my car. As for machanics, I do not know much about cars. I do have friends that work at car shops so there the ones who help me out.
Thank you for letting me know to not put headers in my car cause that was gonna be my next move. What do you guys think about a super charger for my car? Was cheaper, putting a super charger or a 5.7 engine?
V8 Slayer 03-21-2005, 05:18 PM The motor will probably be cheaper than a supercharger. What you could do is,run a small 50 or 75 HP shot of Nitrous....
Truely, the best performance part is a FULL Tuneup
deadmeat2004 03-21-2005, 05:21 PM if u can spend that much a month save it for a few months and get a turbo... a friend of mine has one on his 00 or 02 cant remember which firebird. i believe on the dyno he layed 326rwhp with not a to great of tune. i think he spent just under 4 for it all
V8 Slayer 03-21-2005, 05:26 PM Free Mods:
Ditch AC
TB Coolant Bypass.
deadmeat2004 03-21-2005, 05:29 PM i dont know...not fimiliar...but can u do the tb bypass on the 3.8 the same as the 3.4?? just wondering.
ImportKILLER 03-21-2005, 06:56 PM Intake and full catback would probably add around 10-12, but not more than 15.
After those basic mods, I would rather spend $$$ on suspension and transmission mods. Then the bigger engine mods.
But thats just me.
MustangEater82 03-21-2005, 07:57 PM IF you have like a few grand, I would buy a new/resold FFF turbo kit being sold over at www.camarov6.com
Think I saw one for $2700.
I agree don't do headers.
Looking for nice free track only mods...
-uhook exhaust after the catback
-unhook the intake
-unhook the drivebelt(watch temps, make sure car is cool when you run could overheat quickly)
-remove jack and spare
ChvyS10Lowrider 03-21-2005, 08:04 PM Well I do believe it is the same engine if I am not mistaken in your camaro as my truck, if so, I would say save some mony and go with a pwerdyne supercharger, if they make the mounting bracket, which they should, as well as maybe looking into some smaller things that are free, also, try to free up your exhaust, but I agree, the headers on my truck helped a little but its not that much of a gain as to something such as a turbo or a supercharger, but if you go supercharger, try to keep it centrifical
NOS2006 03-21-2005, 10:22 PM TB Coolant Bypass
Anymore info on what this does and how it's done?
scof0elife 03-22-2005, 12:09 AM What exactly is a tb coolant bypass? I think this is what my friend was trying to explain to me. Does it involve removing something in my car to make a bigger whole going to my air intake?
Please help me out with this one, if I can do something to add horses to my car and its safe to do then I will try it. Help me out guys, so far all of you have been a big help. Thanks a lot.
deadmeat2004 03-22-2005, 12:48 AM http://rich.cz28.com/tbbypass.html go there.
what it does is it reroutes the hot cooloant from going into the throttle causesing it to heat up, thus keeping it cooloer amking the air entering it not get as hot from teh liquid resulting in colder air resulting more hp :) about 1hp! lol but its there!
