holeshot 10-13-2002, 11:36 AM The later F-cars had an optional suspension package. This was listed as "Special Ride & Handling" Suspension with an RPO code of FE4.
Does anyone know specificaly what this package included and how it was different than the base suspension?
Thanks.
95 Z/28 LT1 03-14-2003, 03:53 PM Anyone have any info on the FE4 setup?
Larnach 03-14-2003, 04:00 PM I thought that was the ZO6 suspension.
95 Z/28 LT1 03-14-2003, 04:17 PM It is, but the Camaro/Firebird had its own version of it too
FE2 Suspension System Ride Handling
FE4 Suspension System Special Ride and Handling
FE7 Suspension System Frt & RR HD
Those were suspension RPO codes.
I was wondering what each entailed as far as springs, shocks, etc.
95 Z/28 LT1 03-18-2003, 06:33 PM I guess no one knows what the FE4 suspension includes. :(
greenZ94 03-18-2003, 06:55 PM I would figure that there should be a knowledgable suspension junkie over there who could give you an answer.

nope.....i heard of a couple weird names but never fe4.....
BoscoZ28 03-18-2003, 11:32 PM Nope, cant say I've heard of it either. Only thing I can think of is the 1LE.
BoscoZ28 03-18-2003, 11:43 PM HHmmm, after a little research, looks like maybe its more of a firebird/transam option, I found a list of part numbers and ran across this, part numbers for springs
22132887 / 22132889
(ZR, HS) 1998 Camaro Z28 1LE
(ZM, TJ) 2000 Trans Am WS6 FE4
(ZM, TJ) 2000 Trans Am FE2
(ZL, TH) 2000 Formula NHRA FE2
95 Z/28 LT1 03-19-2003, 09:03 AM Yeah, I saw these springs that were from a WS6 TA Vert at a bone-yard, and they were supposedly from a FE4 car.
What I wanted to know is, if they would be any better than say, stock LT1 or LS1 Z28 springs.
I wonder what the spring rate for them is?
BoscoZ28 03-19-2003, 09:08 AM Im Sure they are. It looks to be like its the equivilent of a 1LE, in which the front springs are 360lb/in and the rear is 130-170lb/in (progressive)
stik6shift98 03-19-2003, 01:53 PM where can you get fe4 stuff and how much is it.....????
Lasombra52 03-19-2003, 07:53 PM A little off topic.
I have the RPO FE2.
1998 Camaro Z28. It says Touring Car Suspension for the description. (I have all the info on my car from GM)
I think the FE4 is an upgraded suspension for WS6's. But I'm not sure.
NBred94 01-14-2005, 11:55 AM Resurrecting this old thread, one thing I found doing research is that the part numbers for 1LE and FE7 front lower control arms are the same. I'm about to order some, so I will report back what they look like.
Z28Nut 01-15-2005, 10:58 AM I have the FE4 option on my '94. I tried to find a stiffer spring through GM (1le) and can't go aftermarket lowering spring due to end of driveway clearance. If I recall correctly, the FE4 and 1le were very close if not the same spring. Also WS6 came up alot and the orig. salad shooter wheels have WS6 cast on the inside of the wheel (do they all have that?). With Hotchkiss LCAs, PHB, sway bars frnt & rear and Edlebrock TA, it's a very stiff and unforgiving ride. This is with orig. shocks. With the beefier sway bars, the car feels like it's on a rail around corners. I couldn't get spring rates but from the cross-reffing they are about the stiffest factory spring GM made.
Cool Z 01-18-2005, 05:08 PM 1998-2002 Camaro SS and WS6 Trans-Am/Formula came with FE4 suspension. The kicker is 1998-early 2000 models differ greatly from the late 2000-2002 models.
For 1998-early 2000 FE4 it included 1LE springs front and rear, the 1993-1995 1LE deCarbon shocks (1LE rear shocks are the same diameter as the front shocks and are slightly stiffer, I have not figured out if the fronts really differ from regular deCarbons), 1LE rear lower control arms, 1LE pan hard bar, 1LE 32mm front sway-bar and 17x9 wheels with 275/40-17 tires. I am not sure if any of the front suspension received any other 1LE parts other than the front sway bar.
For late 2000-2002 the only differences between FE2 and FE4 are very minor. The only difference is the 1LE 32mm front sway bar and the 17x9 wheels with 275/40-17 tires. Also of note is the fact that GM stiffened up the deCarbons for a firmer ride in 2001 untill the end of production in 2002.
I have been researching this for quite some time. I currently have 02 deCarbon front shocks with 1LE springs (from a 96 WS6 T/A) and stock 02 shocks and springs in the rear of my 2002 Camaro SS. It's amazing how much better the car handles with just the front springs installed. Less roll and the ride is only slight amount stiffer. Hope this helps clear some of the confusion.
