Minor Scratches

funny story...(not really)


The other day, I took the new bike out for a little spin. Being its my first sportbike, I wasn't really used to it yet.(understandable). So, I was taking it easy when I came to a stop sign. I stopped, put my feet down, and started to go when I felt comfortable. Well, I stalled out and was holding the bike at a 45 degree angle, and was trying like hell to get it back up, but couldn't...

and I dropped it....


nothing major happened. I had to get a new mirror. But my problem it the little ass scrathes I know have on my fairing. What would be the best way to get these out w/o repainting the whole piece? I was thinking a compound, then a polish, then a wax....any suggestions??

It all depends on how deep the scratches are.

If it's just the clear coat: Meguiar's Scratch X works very well.

Deeper than the clear coat: Touch up paint

Sharp dig: Touch up paint (if it's really deep you can put toothpaste in the dig,
smooth it out, and paint over it when it dries (it's surprisingly
effective)

I would stay away from rubbing compounds. They remove the scratches pretty well, but I have had problems with them messing up the clear coat as well.

I already did the compound, I bought a Craftsman buffer one at Sears this weekend, and I did it yesterday, works awesome,looks pretty good! Also, I did get touch-up but it did bubble up on me...good idea with the toothpaste, I'll have to try it. I did have two deep ones, not too long, only about 1/4 inch, but noticeable. The real minor ones are gone. Maybe if I sand the spots down, then touch up, then compound, then polish??
