How can I tell which car number mine is on a 1997 Firebird Formula? I see all this stuff saying like mine is 4005 out of 8740 or some stuff like that, how do you find that out?

I'm pretty sure there is no such "Build #" for lowly 'birds, formula's and T/A's.

The last few #'s of the vin is the production sequence #.

The #'s you see people having are usually from conversions like SLP does, like

SS# 109 of 467 or WS6/firehawk 2 of 4

This can be difficult as there are so many different ways of referring to cars by numbers. I think, you are referring to the "SLP" build numbers as this is very common among SLP enthusiest. For instance, my 97 SS is build number 35. That means it was the 35th car to be modifide by SLP in 1997. And had a release date of 8/6/86. This can be of interest to us because there are some differences between the cars that were mod'ed earlier compared to the later ones.
There is also the practice of referring to car as 1 of XXX. For instance, there were 100 LT4's built. So you could say, "I have one of only 100 cars built". Or if you have a white SS with XX mods., you could say you have one of 3XX cars built with these mods. This can be an important selling point for collectors.
