Remember that Car and Driver article that picked Mustang over GTO?
Remember that Car and Driver article that picked Mustang over GTO?
Seems readers disagree to the tune of 123-2 so far..lol. I know people that disagree with something are more likely to voice their opinions than those who agree but some of these letters make good points.
Car and Driver article
why would I "gotta have" a car that loses in almost every performance category to the car its competing against
or
you article reminds me of my first wife, she was terrible at cooking, cleaning, and lovemaking, but I chose her because she was blonde.....

Haha! I almost wrote a letter about that (and I'm not even a subscriber anymore). Looks like others have taken care of it for me. Most lame comparison test outcome in recent memory.
Re: Remember that Car and Driver article that picked Mustang over GTO?
Glad to see some of that.
Like the GTO or not, the way they scored that comparison was just an underhanded way to defend one of their Ten Best picks from getting beaten.

Serves them right. Unbiased fact and opinion..... puhleeze. Guess that whole credibility thing is out the window. It should be readily apparent to anyone who reads that particular comparison that they pumped up their "10Best?" car for the win. I really like the ex-wife analogy though. It cracked me up.

People who commented are absolutely right, the GTO is the kind of car that you can drive to a stuffy office job without looking boy-racerish, and hammer on the way home...

That response is just awesome. I remember in their "Lows" column they had "costs over $30k."
I almost wrote a letter to them too, asking them, "Where can you find a car for that level of performance, comfort, refinement and creature comforts for UNDER $30k?" I believe they even admitted in the article that if the GTO won they'd have some explaining to do, seeing as how the Mustang indeed was a 10 Best choice.
And it only lost by 1 point...I took that as a victory, myself

That was a great read. At least C&D will print the letters opposing their choice and almost admit they made a mistake. I'm not sure Motor Trend would do the same.

At any rate, I agree with the C&D choice. If it were my hard earned money, I'd buy a Mustang. I can look at the GTO spec sheets all day, and they all look pretty good (except for the weight - boy it's a porker!), but I just can't get excited about the car.

A related question. Which automotive journalist would you rather hang out with for a weekend: John Phillips, Peter Egan, P.J O' Rourke, or Dan Neil. I think P.J. would get you into the most trouble
