'99 SS 03-04-2005, 04:53 PM Good luck with your C5 :)
To answer your question on waxes/wash/towels/leather/interior, I'd recommend Zaino. Check out their website, www.zainobros.com, and you'll find info. on towels, polish, wash, etc. :)
I'm sure there will be some "debate" on the use of Zaino, but IMO, it's the best. And I've done plenty of cars for people who were amazed with the results.
As for windows, I use 'Stoners'. It cleans really well, in addition to removing that film on the inside.
As for tire shire, it depends if you want a matt or glossy finish. I like 'Meguires NXT' shine.

Think that's why he's asking  I'm sure he'll determine for himself.
exceldetail 03-06-2005, 09:16 PM I prefer a combination of Four Star, Blackfire, and Megs #80. I also like Castrol Simply Clean (Or is it Super Clean) All purpose cleaner.
Kevin V 2002 SS 03-07-2005, 12:15 PM Zaino for me!!! After 35 years and dozens of products it is the only one that does everything I want from a product.
Trying different products and determining what is important to you is how you will find out what you think is best for you.

Exactly...you and I are not able to tell him...that's why I gave him a list of products I like and use. He can take those for what they are worth and try what he wants.
1-bad-z28 03-07-2005, 03:05 PM I never use wax....my personal preference is buffing with a polishing compond. I use a dewalt d849 adjustable speed 1000-3000rpm buffer. These are not for the inexperienced detailer. You can burn through paint in a heart beat. I am a custom painter so this is my favorite tool in my shop.

Never use wax ? Compounds dont contain protective qualities.....He needs protection....
lbls1 03-07-2005, 11:34 PM The best result will be produced with the following:
1. A consistent wash/clean routine which will include a very good car wash detergent that will not strip wax. Scrutinize how your car is stored. If you have issues with dust or tar, and your car is in a garage or a gated yard, consider an excellent car cover.
2. Your goal as far as a optimum paint surface. Outline the year for yourself that you will conceivably spend to detail the car. Plan that year by starting the detail with a thorough paint cleaning with a paint cleaner-polishing product, a deeper polish product that will correct light swirls and streaks, while balancing the paint surface (products can range from one step polishes to three steps depending on how severe the paint condition is).
3. Your choice of a last step product, which will either be categorized as a synthetic or natural (carnauba/ carnauba blend) finish product.
Your perfected regimen and maintenance of your finish surface will produce the "best" results for you.
Good luck.
PS: Do not cut corners or try to save money by buying cheap or inferior products. Do some research, and try out products yourself in order to determine whether any product will meet and exceed your expectations.

Who told you that? It's better than wax
ZaneO 03-08-2005, 10:42 AM How is a compound better than a wax for protecting paint?
exceldetail 03-08-2005, 11:35 AM Who told you that? It's better than wax
Compounds, as you have referred to, are abrasive cleaners/polishes, and nothing more. They dont contain anything to protect your surface. You may get very limited protection with petroleum distillates, but as for a "layer" of protection, not gonna happen....Consider adding a Polymer protectant after your paint cleaning/polishing/compounding. You may find yourself, "compounding" less...........
Kevin V 2002 SS 03-08-2005, 12:38 PM Do you even have any clearcoat left from buffing with an abrasive that much.

I don't buff it that often. Besides, I have several different compounds that I use. When I said it was better than wax, what I meant is buffing is better than waxing (by hand or with a polisher). I'm not saying the actual compound is better than the wax itself. When I wet sand a new paint job with 2000 grit sandpaper, I will use a dual action cut cleaner swirl remover. Then after it is buffed with that I use machine glaze. I also use the machine glaze on my car at least once a year. Not abrasive enough to really cut the clear but to get out those light swirls from washing. Then I will use a liquid carnuba wax with it's own buffing pad and buff it with that. A lot less work doing it this way and seems to look better in my opinion.
moparman 03-09-2005, 12:31 PM So you DO use wax. :D
LS1RedZ 03-09-2005, 01:51 PM I use the Turtle Wax "Ultra" and it leaves a really good shine and it is very smooth afterwards.
1-bad-z28 03-09-2005, 03:03 PM So you DO use wax. :D
Yes...i do use wax, I just don't wax my car like most people i guess. Sorry for the misunderstanding.
