How many miles should I get on a full tank?

I have a 2000 Z28 A-4 maro. I filled it up the other day and then set the trip. I'm just about ready to fill up again and I have 304.7 from the time I filled up. is that good ?

Better than i ever got.........how big are our tanks? If it matters mine is an 02. Usually i fill up at about 225 and i don't drive to crazy either.....i pushed it once and i wanna say 250-260 miles i think. From a past post......i think it was in the lounge but they had a most miles/tank and least miles/tank thread. I think u win most miles........u sure it wasn't 204.7? How did u drive the car that whole time?

I wasn't realy on it at all, but I did have the fule injectshion cleaned last week. like I said I set the trip at a full tank topped off & have a little bit more to go with 304.7 miles. dose that not sound right ?

I don't think anything is wrong with my car cuz i've always gotten the same mileage since i got it with 9,000 miles.....maybe my gas gauge/sensor is messed up? It's usually real close to the empty line when i fill it at about 220 miles......everytime i fill it i don't think i've ever gotten even 14 gallons in.....and i thought i was pushin it.

U sure its 16.8.......thats what i thought it was but i started to think maybe the V6 and V8 gas tanks were different sizes. anybody else?

The owners manual says 16.8

My manual said it was a 16.6 gal. tank.(2002)
On steady freeway driving at about 75mph I usually get 360 miles to a tank. :) Granted, you still have a couple gallons left when it says its empty.

in town i get about 225 and highway i get about 340

ok my tank is DEF. not 16+ gallons... its no more than 13.5 cause i will run it down to fumes and it has never taken more than 13.3 gallons... and with mixed driving i'll get about 200 miles a tank

Tank capacity changed in '99 when they changed to plastic... 15.5gal v/s '99+ 16.8gal. I've definately filled mine up beyond 13 gallons :D I've seen as high as 30mpg with nothing but highway travel on cruise in 6th gear.

I usually see about 22mpg or so just riding around.

I find it hard to get under 300 miles to a tank with city/intercounty. With highway driving mixed in I can get 400 to a tank easy....If you're averaging 220 miles per tank, something is wrong. Have you had your car tuned for your mods yet?

Nah, depends on the car (or maybe just the driver?;)). The most I ever hit was 310 miles, and that was all highway driving (albeit, "me" behind the wheel:lol: ) but cruising ~75 mph, with just a little bit of city mixed in.

My "average" mileage per tank is ~230 miles. I've been getting a little lower lately with the 4.10's, but still get about 230. I've seen as low as only 200 miles, but as much as ~260 with the 4.10's on the highway:thumb:.

304 is good IMO:cool:.

thats with mix of some high speed runs and some city and some highway.. thats almost every gas stop since I bought it new..

your numbers are right on.. average.. the LS1 gas tank is 16.9 gallons.
the LT1 gas tank is smaller and the gas gauge on an LT1 will have you pushing the car if you let the line meet the E. The LS1 is much more forgiving.

Again, we are in an LS1 forum.. but .. on my LT1.. the best I would get with 3.73's and stall, 240 miles.. I ran out of gas so often (more than 5 times in 3 years) that I carried a gas can in the trunk and a skateboard to get to the gas station.

Ok this is making me sick hearing about the gas mileage you all are getting. This is my friends name and i have a 02' Z28 with LT's, Loudmouth Exhaust, Thermostat and Lid. I fill up right when it gets to below a quarter of a tank left and i only have about 180 miles on the trip odometer. My 02 sensor has been flipping out. What is the deal with this? Help please i need better gas mileage.

On a highway trip I got 410 to a tank once coming back from florida, when In first bought the car.
Average" when stock" was 320-385 depending on how I drove it.
Cammed its about 250-330. Depending on how I drive it.

Best I've got was 360. 8o mph cruise, no getting on it, But I didnt buy my Z28 with mileage in mind :cool:

Well...get your 02 sensor should be fixed/replaced first then see where it is. That could be your whole problem.

I was going to say 15.5 like said above. To lazy to go out in the cold to find out.

2001 Camaro SS... I swear I calculated 36-38MPG pure highway a year ago going from NC to Georgia... using 6th gear the entire time +cruise control Avg 70-90 mph (possibly more at times)

The same trip I got 32mpg in a 2004 Pontiac Vibe (5 speed, downshifting to get up hills :()

But I want to say i must have miscalculated on the camaro, because hardly anyone of you guys are hitting even 30 mpg... but if a 5speed did 32.. then a 6speed makes sense doing higher ... It was so long ago though I can't remember.. I guess the hills may have helped a LOT too... all the hills help you to accelerate like crazy, and you're going so fast at the bottom of the hill that going up the next one is easy as pie..

Well, as much as I can't understand how some guys get such exceptionally high mileage out of their F-bodies, I can't argue 'cause I've got 3 buddies with LT1 F-bodies, and all of them get much better mileage than I do. The highest is a '97 Z28 M6, and he claims that he's gotten as high as ~460 or maybe even ~490 on a long highway cruise, in 6th gear, doing no more than ~70 mph!?:eek: I'm pretty sure he says that ~350 - 400 miles / tank is pretty much normal, until he starts driving more "spirited";).

Like I say, that blows me away, 'cause the highest I EVER got was only 310, but even my other friend's '96 T/A, A4, 2.73's has pulled well over 300 miles / tank?:confused:

When i went to pick up my 1999 Trans Am, auto with 2.73's and 32k. It was a three hour drive, 225 miles and I used amlost half a tank...I got better mileage than my dads 00 Grand Prix. I was driving on I95, then the NJ Turnpike, then the Parkway, so it was all highway.

Other day i filled up at half a tank and had over 200 It was all highway with cruise set at 75. i figured it up buy gallons put in and mileage and got 26.7 MPG!

My Auto LT1 sucked gas like there was no tomarrow...I never saw better then 270 a tank and it had 2:73's.

Yeah, if you're not on it 24/7 then that's awesome. Figure 15 gallon tank X 20mpg= 300 miles....Rated stock at 18 city and 23 HW. That's F*N great!

Well after readin this thread......i decided to push it and try to get close to a full tank of gas out before i fill. I got 15.385 gallons in.....and i had 260 miles. How does that sound....my car is a A4, 3.23 option gears, with the mods in the sig. I only drive prolly 60-70 miles of it on highway.

well thats alot better than me, i have 46K on my 3.23 option LS1 and i will usually get like 220-30 miles to a tank in city driving, and about 300 miles a tank on highway. but yes, 260's pretty good. maybe i just have a lead foot? :D

I got right next to 400mpg when my car was stock on a mostly highway road trip, cruise control is there for a reason. use it, it saves gas.

I get like 10-13mpg in my 3500 stalled LT1... mixed driving mostly city though. I fill up like 10-12 gallons every 120-150 miles... Fun though ;)

I bought my 1998 Z28 and drove almost 600 miles from Conneticut to North Carolina. I

I filled it up in CT, drove I-95 back, stopped once in NJ for a bathroom break. The traffic conditions were:

A little city driving in CT, some stop and go/low speed traffic in Jersey, tolls in Jersey, Delaware, and Maryland, HEAVY traffic in DC, and then open highway from DC on.

Made it to 80 miles north of Richmond, Virginia and still had 1/4 of a tank left from the fuel up in CT. I believe it was around 335 miles or so. Filled it up there and drove the rest of the way home and had almost a half-tank left(around 250 miles).

All the highway driving was in 6th gear with cruise set at 72-74mph.

I am thinking these bada** MPG ya'll are gettin' are due to these things:

-6 speed
-Possibly flatter area, no hills and such
-Maybe above/below seal level has an affect?...

Nah, an M6 all highway gets damn good mileage. Since I *USUALLY* only bring it out to race, I typically get around 250mpg. But an all-highway road-trip with an M6 results in good mileage.

yea i get 300+ when hwy... and city.. never 100% hwy... but im in new orleans.. NO hills lol... and below sea level... prob why....
