With a dozen extensions, getting that steering column out and putting it back in is a piece of cake. It sure is a PITA trying to turn each bolt 100x to get it out while your face is on the floormat and your feet on are on the headrest. It's a very vulnerable position to be in.

I didn't have to take out the steering column. It' much easier and faster to just take the clutch pedal off the bracket, twist the pedal assembly over the column (from the passenger side of the column), then bolt the clutch pedal back onto the bracket before bolting the whole thing down to the firewall. And by doing it this way you don't get that damn constant "air bag" dummy light on all the time after you button it all up.

The only time you would get that light is if you took out the steering linkage and turned the steering wheel without the linkage in place. If you do, you will brake your SIR coil inside the steering wheel and that will set your airbag light. But thanks for the advice, Fast Caddie. I was hoping I wouldn't have to take out the steering column, but everyone kept telling me it's impossible.

Hmm, Well I followed the instruction in the helms manual about taking the fuse out and making sure the column was locked before I took it out. I guess I'll just have to find out if I get the light or not come monday. Everybody told me the same thing Mad wolf aboutt aking out the steering column. They said it was impossible to take out the pedals without doing so.

Well i did the pedal swap in under 2 hours and never took out the column or the seat. The worst part about it was reaching up to re-install the clutch pedal bolt. But mind you, at least 30 minutes of that 2 hours was spent cussing and throwing **** around just trying to figure out how to put those damn pedals in without taking the column out. Once i got the idea with the clutch pedal, it didn't take long at all. I can seriously say if i could do it again, i could do the swap in an hour or less. Just scoot the seat back as far as it'll go, take out the knee bolster, and remove the bottom plastic piece under it to give you more room. You can lay on your back in the floorboard with your feet out on the ground and reach where you need too.

Once you do it you'll see how much easier it is. I can't imagine taking the column out just to set some pedals in it. It's like taking the engine out just to get the trans out.

i did not have to remove the column either. maybe 2 hrs changing pedals . i put it in with the clutch pedal still attached too.there was some cursing and some new scars on my hands and arms but it was not that bad.
