what are the diffrences between a 3 channel rear and a four channel rear. so far what i know the abs ring on a three channel in on the carrier and a 4 channel has a ring at the end of each axle. are all asr cars 4 channel? does a 4 channel have a ring on the carrier also? will the abs work if you put a three channel rear in an car that came with a 4 channel. any you for any info.

I'm not sure what ASR is, but all traction control (TCS) cars are 4 channel.

does a 4 channel have a ring on the carrier also?
No

Assuming you swap the axles and brackets from the 4channel rear to the 3 channel, yes it will work with no other modifications. The disconnected sensor on the center of the housing and the reluctor ring on the ring gear will just be 'along for the ride'.

Putting a 4 channel rear into a 3 channel car is somewhat more difficult because you will need to precisely drill the housing for the 3 channel ABS sensor and install the reluctor ring.

ASR = acceleration slip regulation, right?

Brent is exactly right about the 3 vs. 4 channel thing, and as well about the fact that it's easier to turn a non-TCS (3 channel) diff into a 4 channel than it is to go the other way around:cool:.
