Searched abit but only found people who knocked the ambassator $300 paint job Maaco gives, anyone get the signature? Went over to a local Maaco today and talked with the manager. Check out a car that was getting the the "presidential" paint job. It was a Dodge Stratus and it was in the booth drying and it looked GOOD, i can honestly say. If you do not know the levels Maaco offers and the descriptions, here it is:

Ambassator: High Grade Industrial Enable, no clear coat (cheapist one, one you see advertised for $300, manager did not advise me to go this route)

Presidential: Same as Ambassator only they use an enable that deals with the elements better, and looks abit better i guess. (still no clear coat)

Supreme: Single Stage polyurathane, then a protective coat which is actualy a 50/50 mix of clear coat and paint

Signature: Ideal for metallic finishes, they give it a factory look, they do a base coat and a full clear coat. (roughly $1200)

Has anyone gotten the signature paint job from them? Looks to be pretty squared away, they did the supreme job on 2 fenders, hood, and bumper of an acura integra which is white, and it looked amazing... Makes me wonder how the signature one looks. I am considering getting a new paint job, my car is metallic green and will not be a daily driver and will be garage kept... she will be alittle street and alittle track...What do you all recomend?

So true.
However, not everyone has the same standards of quality on how they repair their cars. Consider the fact that J.C. Whitney is still in business, as is the folks that make those stinky pine tree air fresheners that get sold at auto parts stores.... I'm sure the MAACO job is okay, so long as YOU are exceptionally careful with your body prep. I wouldn't want to put my car in there until it's been thoroughly gone over, had all the emblems removed, weatherstrips taken out, door dings filled, and one color sanding done. The more you do, the less corners they will have to cut in order to profitably paint your car. Otherwise, expect them to simply tape around the decals, door handles, door locks, etcetera.

I just had my car painted by a shop to show car standards, and we actually pulled the windshield before painting. Oh, and just materials cost for the good paint was eleven hundred bucks.

my uncle had his old porsche painted by macco. it looked amazing for the price, a little orange peel but looked to be about factory quality. from what I understand macco mixes its own paint and buys in bulk so their material costs are less, i do agree that you should remove anything that you dont want overspray on though, I think he payed almost 2000 for everything. I think it was a good deal and im thinking about having my car done.

I wouldn't have my car painted by macco if they paid me to do it. The most important part of painting a car is in the prep work. If you don't prep it right, paint won't stick to what's underneath. This will not be noticeable right away, but give it a year or two and it will start to peel.

Pay for a quality job. I know it is not cheap, but it will be money well spent. If you get the macco special you will wish you had once it starts to come off. It will end up costing you more than if you had it done right the first time because the paint shop will have to take off all of the macco paint and redo what they messed up. Iv'e been painting for over 7 years and trust me, you don't want to go to macco.
