Do you think there will be a 5th gen this decade?

Simple question.

I'm at 75%

They have until Dec. 31 2009 and by then different 3 platforms they could build it on.

GM is always looking for new niches and new segments, it would be foolish not to build a new Camaro from a business stand point. I see that Camaro selling at least 75,000-100,000+ that is more than the GTO, CTS, Solstice, Sky, Monte Carlo, SSR, Velite.

100,000+ seems very optimistic. 60-70 seems quite do-able though.

If Mustang sold 141k units for 2004, a well-known lame-duck model year, then why the HELL can't a Camaro sell 100k units? Can ANYONE explain that to me? When Camaro and Firebird were 9 model years old combined they still sold 70k units. Come on people...

I am 100% sure we'll see a Camaro by the end of the decade... perhaps even sooner than we think. ;)

Well, we have people here with "official" news that GM will bring back the Camaro by 2006/7, so....I'm still 75% sure ;)

Everyone knows bob lutz doesn't want another camaro and lets face it... fourth gen sales were a disaster (I wouldn't be surprised at all if you could buy brand new 2002 fbodys still.) so I'm at %25, luckily we have a few million fbodys out there still to play with.

Really? Have you been able to pick his brain about it personally? I know Bob has been sarcastic in his public thoughts on Camaro (heck, he gets the "C" question asked of him so much he probably is just looking for funny new ways to say "no comment"). But seriously, the brass at GM would have to be flaming morons to not be interested in a Mustang fighter with a heritage like Camaro which has the potential to sell 100,000+ per year (more than many of the new GM niche models combined). Flaming morons? Oh yeah there is that Fiat thing. :D

I think there will be a mustang fighter, it just wont be called camaro or firebird and the GTO doesn't seem to be doing much. If the GTO was selling like it did in 64 (couldn't keep up with the orders) I'd have no doubt there would be a new camaro... as it stands right now I just don't have a lot of faith. Hopefully I'm wrong, it's just speculation and history I'm going off of.

All Mustangs are not V8's... All GTO's are.

All Mustangs are not loaded... All GTO's are.

I could go on...

If you want a better comparison, compare sales of Mach I's to GTOs....

EDIT:

2003 Mach I: 9,652
2004 Mach I: 14,364

2004 GTO: 15,728

All Mustangs are not V8's...etc etc

I know, I know, I'm an idiot with no faith in GM right now. I'm not knocking the GTO, I love it, I just wish it was selling like crazy. Then I'd feel a lot better about more 2+2 v8 rwd coupes coming from GM... that's all.

Not calling you an idiot... just putting forth a point of view.

If GTO sold as many as it possibly could, it would have only been 18,000 anyway, due to plant production limits, so it wouldn't have been all that much more anyway.

And if you compare it to the Mustang model it most closely relates to.... it outsold it.

This is a little off subject, but this fall (2005) Gm can say the “C” word again right? I mean I know they won’t come out and say they are building a 5th gen. I also realize we won’t see it till they roll out the production model at an auto show. But they will be able to talk more this Fall right?

BTW I'm at about 65% faith left. I know something is coming but I’m not sure if it’s going to wear the name Camaro or if it’s worth the name Camaro.

I'd imagine it would be similar to the C6 Corvette. The "official" announcement will be at the LA or Detroit Autoshow just prior to its official fall/winter launch.

We have a while to wait. :D

I don't think anyone should loose faith until the next GTO comes out since they are both due out at the same time. Remember there are no new RWDs out yet, GM hasn't had a chance to put out a mainstream RWD. I don't expect conformation from GM until about 18mo. before the launch of the new Camaro. So if Fall 2007 is the rumored release, I would think the 2006 NAIAS, Chicago, or NYC auto show would be the time of announcement.

The day GM is loosing money, spinning off subsideraries and divisions, and starts cancelling products is the day I'll say Camaro's in trouble.

I'm 100% sure about Camaro. Call it more than faith. ;)

Not sure if that was sarcastic or not, but

losing money: Yup; the auto biz is still bleeding red ink
spinning of subsidiaries: Yup; DirecTV, GM Defense, ElectroMotive
cancelling products: Didn't they put a hold on all new Kappas?

Anyhow, I'll agree with the 100% chance of a RWD coupe.

I am 100% it only makes sense with the horsepower war on like it is. This the best bet for GM, a reasonably priced RWD V8 car and add the camaro lineage to it = big money.
