My 1996 Camaro has the factory cassette player. I want to upgrade so I can have a C.D. player and preamps. However, I don't want to use a standard DIN and one of those install kits. It looks awful in my opinion. I've seen 4 or 5 different DIN 1/2 units that I like, but crutchfield's website says olnly the DIN will fit. Has anyone put the bigger aftermarket GM sized units in a 4th gen? Why wouldn't it fit? Is it a depth issue? I can put a cd changer in it or get a salvaged GM cd player, but I'd rather get aftermarket performance. So, will an aftermarket DIN 1/2 fit?

1.5 DIN WILL work. For anything else you will need an adapter kit. I believe Pioneer is the only one that makes a 1.5 H/U at this time.

Ok, thanks for the info. I figured it would work. Jensen has 1.5 DIN as well

I have the Pioneer unit. I like the fact that it fits the whole opening, and I wish they would make some new ones, mine has to be 5 or 6 years old

I had the same question. I think the pioneer will look great in there but crutchfield says it won't fit. Also pioneer does upgrade these every year with the new stuff like satelite radio, last years only had XM controls.

I have a Pioneer DEH-P47DH in mine. Nice unit. Had to use a PAC adapter to bypass the bose though.

What's up Ion!? I bought some injectors off ya awhile back (24# LT1) ....met ya up at the 7-11 by ya. Anyways...the Jensen is garbage....the Pioneer a *tiny* bit better. The request has been small for them...You are better off with a 1 din radio and that sweet ass single din molding ....

I am pretty sure it WON'T fit on 1993-1996 Camaros because of the SHAPE of the opening (not 100% sure). Maybe that's what they're talking about?
It WILL fit any 1993-2002 Firebird model or 1997+ Camaro.
