Which IHRA class???fastcamz28 02-14-2005, 12:13 PM Based on my sig, what IHRA class would I run in for bracket racing? Thanks! Stephen 87 IROC 02-14-2005, 04:33 PM For bracket racing there's 3 classes. Street, Box and No Box. Street is usually for cars running 14.0 and slower Box and No Box are also called Top and Mod or electronics and non electronics. What that means is Box, Top or Electronics are vehicles which use a delay box and/or throttle stops to control reaction time and downtrack ET time. 2 steps and transbrakes are not considered electronics. Electronic ignitions or EFI are not considered electronics. There's no real ET break for the 2 classes. It's up to your local track to decide but normally the breakdown is: Box 0 - 11.99 No box 12.0 to 13.99 Many tracks allow no box to run as quick as 10.0 and some even allow down to 7.50. Although there are a few vehicles out there, you won't see too many vehicles in serious competition running quicker than 9.99 without a delay box or throttle stop. Chances are you're not going to be using electronics so your ET bracket class is No Box which can also be called No-E or MOD ET. I run a delay box and I have ET/B on my windows. Stephen 87 IROC 02-14-2005, 04:39 PM If you want to class race then that's a whole different ball game. You don't build a car then decide what class to run in. You get a rulebook to see what you're able to do within a specific class then build a car to fit the class. Class racing would be things like Crate Motor, Stock Fuel Injection, Pure Stock Etc. Index racing is another form of racing. Hot Rod 10.90, Super Rod 9.90 and Quick Rod 8.90 all run on their index. The goal is to run as close to the index ET as possible without running quicker. TedH 02-14-2005, 05:55 PM Call your local track and ask. IHRA rulebook states Street is 12.00 and slower. At our track: Street is 12.00 and slower (DOT tires only) Mod is 9.00-13.99 (no box) Top is 12.00 and quicker (box) fastcamz28 02-14-2005, 10:42 PM Thanks for all of the responses!! :) I will check w/ the local tracks around Lafayette. Stephen 87 IROC 02-15-2005, 12:11 AM I went thumbing through the rulebook and still can't find the ET breaks. I wish the IHRA rulebook was better organized like the NHRA one. Like I mentioned already, it's usually up to the track to decide. When our track was NHRA, the break between Pro and Super pro was 12.00. Any quicker and you were in Superpro. This broke the cars down so there were roughly the same amount in each class every weekend. Now that we're IHRA and No Box cars can run quicker (10.00), the No Box class has gotten huge. Just more rounds they have to go through to get a win. It's not exactly a fun race when you're a 13 second No Box car going up against an 8 second dragster who doesn't use a delay box although it's fun to watch the dragster sit on the line for 5 seconds waiting for the green. sseeya 02-15-2005, 10:56 AM Here's a list of the IHRA track's taken off the IHRA website. Find the one you will be racing at and see if they have the ET breaks listed. Most tracks do. They should also have the rules listed. | ||
