I have my sw. in the exact same place on my Iroc already. chris mongse_1 02-14-2005, 11:04 AM Under the passenger tail light. IrocSS85 02-14-2005, 08:42 PM as in between the taillight and top of the bumper cover? sseeya 02-14-2005, 10:08 PM Mine is right in the middle. Just under the hatch lock. Sorry, I don't have a picture. 95Bird 02-14-2005, 10:39 PM I put mine right in the middle of the license plate :p http://www.ipsb.net/herringt/95Formula/thunder%20shootouts/launch1.JPG Closest pic I have..sorry IrocSS85 02-14-2005, 11:04 PM mike, is it through the middle taillight piece? what kind of sw. do you have? the flamin river type thats got a rod? or the sw. type that has no extension rods? 95bird, isnt that illegal to modify the plate ? do you drive that car on teh street? I did have the idea of usina 3rd gen folding plate to put the sw. behind it, but that would be a huge hassle with the bumper still in there it seems. what type of sw. do you have there? if its the flamin river type, does the sw. go under the "trunk" space? thanks for the replies so far. keep them coming. any explination of how you mounted it would be great too. :) chris Stephen 87 IROC 02-15-2005, 12:26 AM Ack! Smaller pic for those without broadband or mega pixal width moniters please. The trouble with using the third gen fold down plate is that the safety crew wouldn't know to look behind the plate if your car was on it's roof and the engine was still running. Simple rulebook installation. Master switch must be connected to positive cable. Switch must disconnect all power and kill the engine when turned off. (real bugger for your stereo presets and clock) Switch must not be plastic or keyed. Off must be clearly marked. If mounted as a push/pull switch, push is the off position. A simple streetproof installation is to mount the switch inside the car. Drill a hole through the back to install a rod through to the switch. A Tee handle on the rod marked "Push Off". When you're finished racing, remove the rod from the switch and store it in the back. IrocSS85 02-15-2005, 07:37 AM yeah thats a good idea. thanks for the rule book stuff. didnt know push must be off so good to know. chris sseeya 02-15-2005, 10:47 AM mike, is it through the middle taillight piece? what kind of sw. do you have? the flamin river type thats got a rod? or the sw. type that has no extension rods? thanks for the replies so far. keep them coming. any explination of how you mounted it would be great too. :) chris Chris, Mine is right in the middle of the word CAMARO. I have the switch type. I put it there because that's the only place that the inner sheet metal and outer plastic panels meet without a gap between them. I just drilled a hole through both outer plastic and inner sheet metal and then wired it to the positive side of the battery. This is a race car, so I wasn't worried too much about looks. mongse_1 02-15-2005, 03:40 PM as in between the taillight and top of the bumper cover? Under the taillight, through the bumper cover just above the bumper itself. http://67.18.70.74/~qmile/images/TA/TAback.gif It's to the left of the duct tape. I used a small rubber grommet to make it look a little better. :p Hot Rod Hawk 02-15-2005, 10:01 PM In the right tail light reflector http://www.hotrodhawk.com/jeffsfirehawk.jpg IrocSS85 02-15-2005, 10:48 PM cool thanks guys. chris Sean94Z 02-16-2005, 08:51 AM Master switch must be connected to positive cable. Switch must disconnect all power and kill the engine when turned off. (real bugger for your stereo presets and clock) Switch must not be plastic or keyed. Off must be clearly marked. If mounted as a push/pull switch, push is the off position. I have mine connecting like this .. My positive side goes to the battery cable and then runs up to the alternator/starter, etc.. Then I have the switched side connecting to the power for the fuel pump and my msd ignition box. So, when it's turned off, the car dies and my radio and presets all continue to work.. Don't know if that's legal or not in the NHRA/IHRA rule book.. RBE17 02-16-2005, 01:24 PM I had mine behind the license plate. Later, Steve. Projectz28 02-16-2005, 07:04 PM I mounted mine outside the car behind the bumper cover. Its a FR switch and just drilled a hole thru the license plate area, cut and retapped the rod to shorten it. Its not a street car so i was not worried about weather and what not... same with the plate. I have a Chevy Tough plate that I just drilled a hole in and reinstalled, then put the handle back on. I couldnt find anywhere in the rear hatch arear to mount it without welding up some custom brackets and I dont have a welder handy so i opted to mount it outside the car behind the cover. I ran the cables thru the rear of the car. I havent installed an alternator wire yet. I dont know if yours will pass tech or not. It does say that the switch must kill ALL power to the vehicle. Although if they test it and your car shuts down they may not be inclined to look and see if your radio is still working;). Camaro_Guru16NY 02-18-2005, 02:33 AM I was gonna mount mine in the bottom of the rear well facing down with the switch type. since my cars still street driven I can switch it to off when its parked and not have to worry about someone trying to steal my car and its still accessible for the track. john | ||
