Need to ask a ?

Hey all.
I am not sure where to ask this at. So I thought here. I have not been on here in a long time. And last time I was I was asking for help for a friend.

Anyways I have 97 Camaro. It has a 3800 V6 in it. Not big...but not bad. :) I like it.

Anyways this car was bought for my by my husband. Who is not a camaro fan. (he likes trucks...but I love him anyways) So to my question, this year he bought me a Haynes Repair manual for the car. (nothing is WRONG with it, just wanted the book) I was reading through it and due to not having an owners manual in the glove box when I got it, I was trying to find out anything I could about it. Well I went to go look up the Service parts identification label. Guess what? It is not there! So has anyone ever had to try to order one that matches their car? I would like to have this for my car just in case. Plus I like the idea of being able to look up hte information and learn more about it, and possibly modify and play and even just fix things if I have to.

Also I really would like to get my hands on an owners manual. I know not necessarily a tech question and since I am new to this I am hoping someone will be forgiving and help me figure this information out.

im sure you could goto a GM dealearship and give them ur vin and they can give you the information u want. they might even be able to give u an owner's manual.

I will give them a call today and see what they say. THank you for the suggestion. I was looking online last night and could not find anything. But I had not thought about the dealer. :) I guess I can say that is a duh moment for me.

You can get printed owner's manuals and factory shop manual from http://www.helminc.com . The shop manual there is what the dealer uses. :( Too bad it's not a 1995 or earlier as they have those manuals on sale. Still, it's worth the normal price. :)

I might still do that. Finding it on the computer is not always fun, plus I am sure my husband would rather it be in paper format. :)

You could probably get away with the 95 one. The update book that's included is all info on just the 3.8. Strangely enough the California cars had obd2 while the other 3.8s :think: were obd1. At least that's what the book says...

If it were me, I would get one for the year of my car. There are a bit of wiring differences and addition of OBD-II items that are worth noting.

1995, the only OBD-II cars were the 3.8 V6s.
