Okay my engine is getting dirty and I want to pressure wash it. One problem. Opti-Spark dosen't like water. :D Can I pressure wash it while it's running? What do you guys do cause I'm stumped.

If you are careful, there shouldn't be any problems.

- let engine get slightly warm and shut off
- cover PCM, alternator, and fuse box with aluminum foil
- spray compartment lightly with water
- apply diluted degreaser and let dwell for a couple of minutes
- scrub everything with a variety of brushes and mitts using soapy water
- rinse compartment lightly with water
- remove foil and run engine for about 5 minutes
- apply dressing/protectant after everything dries

If you are super worried about the opti, put a plastic bag or foil over it.

Avoid drenching any area of the engine compartment and you'll be fine.

I would not pressure wash the engine. In addition to the opti, there are various sensors and connectors that could take a hit from a high pressure spray.

I would not pressure wash the engine. In addition to the opti, there are various sensors and connectors that could take a hit from a high pressure spray.

At the same time, I wouldn't wash it with a hose. A hose will allow many, many times more volume which could be even more dangerous.

Either method you choose, you just have to use caution and common sense. Never put the water source close to any electrical part.

I pretty much just raise the hood and spray it down at the wash...
motor running of course, one time I did it and the car wouldnt start!!
just be careful though...

when I had my LT1 I just lightly misted the engine with a nozzle sprayer, then wiped it clean. Windex works well on tough grease. After which I used armor all to make things shiny.
