RUFST 02-09-2005, 10:59 AM We raced on the street and i dont' know if this truck was stock but do know that with my windows up and as loud as my car is i heard his supercharger whining over my car....and my buddy's got one that's stock and you can barely hear his at WOT......does this mean that he had a smaller pulley on there or somthing........b/c I should have beat him right if it was bone stock????
we were neck to neck all the way through my 4th gear and then he pulled a car on me when i hit fifth and then we let up so he beat me by one car
with this info do you guys think his was stock or not
look at my mods on my web page I should have beat him don't you think if it was stock???

About $700 in mods - this is the "tow-truck" that i'm currently chasing. Still pulls a good 2 cars on me every race no matter what scenario - track, freeway 40mph,50mph,60mph
Stupid truck
yellavette 02-09-2005, 01:34 PM Having previously owned and modded a 99 Lightning I would have to say that you can attribute the extra blower noise to a CAI. Adding one really makes the blower loud. If you're trapping 105 I'd say he's got a couple little mods, but it doesn't take much for an L to run 105....maybe CAI and a chip.

Bersaglieri 02-09-2005, 01:50 PM I ran a modded one from a roll and just barely edged out the win, so I dont think he was stock. Sorry about the loss.

Dustin - do you ever head out to Dragway42? What track is local to you? We're only about 45 minutes from each other.
Bersaglieri 02-09-2005, 02:03 PM Quaker City in Salem is the one about 5 minutes from my home, but I have thought about going a few other places. Dragway 42 has crossed my mind. I just want to get this car out to a strip ASAP and see what she does, I only have the stock 1/4 time, first time out. So I'll probably go to which ever opens first.
-Dustin-
DarkHorse 02-09-2005, 02:32 PM 42 opens March 19th - not sure i'll be ready by then. Still adding parts and I need to drop the tranny to replace the rear main seal and install the Trans-Go. Hopefully i'll be running again by mid April if not sooner.
Bersaglieri 02-09-2005, 02:49 PM Good luck, the nice thing is there are about 8 people who race at 42 from the board and I am yet to find someone who goes to Quaker.

What did the Lightning look like? I figure we live within about 35-40 miles of each other, and I raced a charcoal colored one a few weeks back. If so, was it a younger kid (HS kid) driving with longish hair? I see you're from C-ville, you ever cruise the strip on the weekends? If so I've probably seen your car.

hey man what's up.....i use to cruise the strip alot but very seldom go there anymore.....i was there last weekend tho b/c i put my new zo6's on...anyways yeah the kid was about 18 to 20ish and it was a looked like brand new black one that looked stock....but he was with a red lighting and they were both from e-town....the red one was the one i was suppose to race but he chickened out i guess due maybe to his being stock and anyways his buddy showed up in this black one and ask me if i wanted some and i was like umm i usually don't race on the road but since you said it like that i guess i have no choice but take my wife home and meet up back here
anyways if you know these are they stock or not i'd like to know for sure if that black one was stock.....
go to my web page and see if you recognize the car....we should meet up in town one weekend
BlakeW5 02-09-2005, 10:09 PM The Lightning I raced was from etown too. Kid was still in HS, I think he went to Central Hardin. When I raced him he said he was stock. We hung together through out the length of a 1/4 then around 120 he pulled on me!! Caught me off guard. I figured with the Lightnings awesome aerodynamic I would pass him like it's nothing. Kid said it was stock (01), but never checked the hood. More than likely I wouldn't have been able to tell anyway.
I was gonna go last weekend, but my friends left without me. They said it was pretty packed. Looked at the site and never seen your car. When you said teal, I thought it might have been a teal vert Z that's down there every now and then. I usually don't drive my car down there (driven it down there twice) but it would be cool to meet up some time, perhaps run once or twice see how my car stacks up :) . Bad thing is I would have to get out in the cold to wash my ride (hasn't had one for a about 3 months  ). Can't take a dirty ride to the strip.
Oh yeah: A friends dad works with the boys dad with the Lightning (if it's the same one). The boy has never really raced it, as he bought it wrecked and had it rebuilt recently I think. So I'd say if it's the same guy it's stock.
Speed2Much 02-09-2005, 10:09 PM Look at all the ohio boys in here! I will definately be at 42 when it opens and so will all my buddies in the area with Z's, we will all have to go up there on the same day! Maybe a Friday night cuz thats test and tune and the grudge racing or thats what it said on their websight. It was all rice last time i was there so we need to all roll up in our camaros and scare them :death:
so i dont take over the thread... ummm yeah lightnings are fast with just a couple mods but i really havent seen too many running better than low 13's around here. :D

well i'm not sure if it's the same one or not this one was jet black not charcoal but anyways that's about how he pulled on me...we were dead even up until about 110 120 which we raced longer than a quarter mile b/c we raced on 210. He pulled on me at about that same mph but that's when i run out of gears anyways due to me having 4.10's I have to shift into 5th and 6th which i'm done when i do that it's like i've shifted from 4th to 10th gear there's so much difference oh well i'd still beat him on the strip i feel certain
i'll be in town this weekend on fri or sat night again probably if it's okay weather out there just look for my car and hollar at me or somthing but i'll have the ZR1's on there this time b/c i took my new Z06's off until spring....
BlakeW5 02-10-2005, 11:25 AM Cool. If I'm down there I'll yell at ya. I'll either be in my car, or my friends black Grand Cherokee. So if you see some guy hollerin at ya from a jeep don't get freaked out :D .
For all I know it could have been a black truck, it was dark out and never got a good look at it (try to keep the eyes on the road :D ), but I'm thinking it was charcoal.

Don't worry dude - CANTONRACER will be at 42 on a regular basis - he'll show you a good running Lightning with a driver that is worth a ****. There are a couple of L's at 42 with 3x the amount of money he has in his Lightning that are either running a .1-.2 quicker or .5 slower
Who else do you know with a Z? Anyone from Tusc area by chance? Any info on your car?

I heard alot about his Lightning, cant wait to see it! What does it run in the 1/4? I have a whole crew of Z28's runnin around here, hehe. Mainly me and my brother and my friend, we all have Z's then alot of other friends come out with us in their camaros. I have been down to tusk a couple nights but I have been deployed overseas for the last year so this year i have alot of catchin up to do! I am going to get my car dyno tuned here in the next month before DW42 starts up again. So I will have some numbers before I go up there and a fine tuned car. Im still looking to get a little bigger rear end so I can run some MT's I dunno if that will happen before April. I will at least have more suspension mods and I like running street tires too cuz thats what i would be using on the streets anyways. :D

Please dude - tell me what more information your trying to get out of a message board with members stretched ALL OVER THE COUNTRY about a truck that is in YOUR area? You want our opinion based on text typed in a post on whether the thing was stock or not? What is it your looking for? Just our opinions?
I posted a link to a guy that has a Lightning that has raced it and logged each and every run from stock. There's no way for us to determine if this truck was stock or not - "blower was loud" big deal - they're all loud - means nothing at all. Those trucks run good - low 14's high 13's. Take that and put it side by side with your best numbers - then honestly determine if you hooked well on the street or not and you should be able to come up with the answer.
Posting in this thread keeps it at the top for you - so in essence i've done you yet another favor. Without us keeping this alive - the unanswerable question post is buried on the 6th page by now.
Your welcome.

 thank you that was the best info that i got on here the whole time........and yes your right it would be on the 6th page but that's better than taking someone's post over just chit chatting....btw no flames intended just trying to make a point
DarkHorse 02-10-2005, 12:45 PM 'tis cool - this thread is better than reading those "What will my car run" ones LOL
The L's are fast and it's hard to tell if they're modified or not - that's the point. With your car being a pretty good runner according to your sig I would say that the L probably had something done to it - maybe it has a small mod like CAI or something like that.
RUFST 02-10-2005, 12:50 PM yeah oh well i'm waiting for my tax check then we will see what's up

CANTONRACER 02-11-2005, 09:31 AM In all honesty, it could have been modded a bit or little, but it was modded. I bet a beer on it.
Go to the track and you can look at 5 different Lightnings with the same mods but different tuners and you will have 5 different performing Lightnings.
But as mentioned, a CAI does make a Lightning mucho louder, but it picks up marginal for the most part (5-8rwhp).
Most Lightnings do not run like mine does mod for mod...I got $800 in mods.

yeah i'd say you guys are right about the CAI i'll find out this weekend if the lil guy comes back to town here......i just figured he'd put a smaller pulley on there or somthing which makes masive gains if i'm not mistaking like they do to the new cobras.....neways thanks guys it just erked me i guess that a lightning beat me per say by a car length and he said it was bone stock....makes me wanna get blown that much worse
