4th gen front speaker size

What size are 4th gen Camaro speakers? 5 1/4? 6 1/2?

The speaker openings are 6.5, even with 5.25s in there. When you upgrade from the crappy Bose like I did, (had the wonderful 3 speaker Bose) you might as well go bigger.

I like the Bose system... I've got the five speaker though, and yeah I love bigass grills with tiny speakers underneath.

Thanks guys. :) I blew a front speaker, so it's time to upgrade. I need a decent 6.5 that sounds good but won't break the bank. Any recommendations? I might as well replace the rears too...

Have you checked to make sure? I think a lot of 95s had the 3 speaker system just like the 94s. I thought I had the 5 speaker system when I first bought my Z :o

I don't know how the Monsoon is, but if it's anything like the Bose, you can't upgrade speakers and use the stock head unit. All the Bose stuff has to go for the trash can.

You have to get an aftermarket head unit in order to use decent speakers. If you want the best, definitely go with components. Otherwise, Infinity Kappas or the Polk/MOMO series coaxials handle some really nice power. I've always been happy with Infinity coaxials. You can get good stuff from any big name brand though, just look for speakers in the upper price range. Don't get any of their "bargain" speakers and you should be happy.

i have power bass 6.5's like 80 bucks for the pair.. awesome in my opinion.. they are taking 150watts apiece.. then i have some jvc's up front.. i had some image dynamics all around but like my current setup better..

You can make 6.5" speakers work, but you have to do some work to do it (or buy an adapter). Or you can simply buy 6.75" speakers and slap them in.

I'm running 6.75 in Memphis Coaxials all around, and they fit perfectly w/ no clearance/mounting issues. Sound good for a coax speaker too.

Most GM vehicles are 6.75", NOT 6.5". The speaker itself may be the same size, but the opening/mounting is different.

Yeah... All you do is order the oversized 6.5.

That's exactly right, most GMs are oversized 6.5, that's why it doesn't take any work to install, the adapters come with the speaker. There are a LOT more good 6.5s out there than 6.75s.

I've never heard of 6.75" speakers.
95% of them are just 6.5s made to fit in a GM. Not a single thing different about them.

i didnt have to rig anything up.. every 6.5 i have put there just had the screws mounted out side the speaker but it still held the speaker securly in place.. the adpter gig i first tried because i was told i had to was too big and the t/a door panels wouldnt clear.. thus i ditched the adapter plates..

"Back in the day" when I first got my new 94Z there was that 6.5" and 6.5"S crap (for "Special"). However, recently I think they have dropped the 6.5S size and just make the 6.5" speakers fit all the holes. When I bought some speakers for my 94Z a few months back I asked the kid at Best Buy about the S size and he looked at me funny and said, "Nah, these will work" and handed me regular 6.5" speakers. I thought I was going to have to do the "slide it to one side" trick to mount it but much to my surprise, they fit perfectly and I was able to find a combination of holes that lined up perfectly with the factory holes.

So, I bought a set of Fosgate 6.5" speakers and also Kenwood 6.5" speakers and they both fit with holes aligned in the 4th gens. Seems strange but I came to the conclusion they dumped the "S" size and now just make all 6.5" speakers with the proper mounting ring to fit both the older 6.5" and 6.5"S sizes.
