Metal buzzing sound under the car, 2000 trans am
I just got this car last week, and i noticed a light metal buzzing sound coming from under the car while idling, by the driveshaft area. haven't had a chance to get under the car yet, but I was wondering if this sounds common / easily fixable problem? what i mean by light, is that it sounds like the noise is generated by a small metal piece.
i also hear a light clunking sound too, comeing from closer to the rear of the car. it is more noticable when the whole car shakes say, if i hit a bump while doing a turn.
the car is a 2000 trans am, 6 speed. 42k miles
thanks

sounds like a problem i had, one of the rear muffler brackets was bad, i replaced the one near the right rear tire and it was fixed.
however... i had a problem with the heatshielding back there too, one day i got so pissed about it i went under the car with a hammer and just banged and banged...the next day it was fixed

I had the same metalic buzzing sound coming from the rear of the car it was the heat shield touching the exhaust and it only made this sound at idle. Its because I was messing with my Y-pipe just look under their and check if you can see if its touching anything. As far as the clunk my car makes that sound sometimes but only if i dont shift right like at low rpm's or something not to common though.

I have a similiar problem with the heatshield that goes over the axle. One of the holes that a screw latches down to is bigger than the screw head from some reason. I have a replacement part that I will put in tomorrow.

well i got some ramps and looked under the car, but couldn't pinpoint where the noise was coming from. but it sounded like it was coming from inside the tranny.
noisy gears? synchros? but i put it in gear, and it still makes the noise.
gonna check to see if it does it when i start to accelerate.

Put some black RTV on the end of O2 sensors. Look where they are located. One on each side of the transmission.
The transmission shoudn't be making any noise while in neutral. Even a standard throw out bearing won't make a rattling noise.
