ya well i've been watching this crack get bigger and bigger every day and its about the point when i have to get a new windshield. Its for a 97 Z28 if it makes any differnece. My insurance deductable is $250 so i guess if its less then that i'll pay it my self

 

check you insurance company.

i know here in florida they replace the window without implimenting the deductible. something about state law.

not to mention it doesn't affect your rates....
but that's here in FL

i got quoted about $360-400 when mine cracked..installed

 

ya i called my insurance copmpany in IL and they said i have to pay the deductable, but he its better then $360. The thing that sucks is i'm staioned in DC and i wont be able to get it fixed till March when i go home.

 

why?

the place that did mine came out to my work with a mobile work truck and replaced it.

maybe you can find someone to do that? assuming someone...family or friend..is around to give the guy access to the car.

 

I paid $220 for mine, including installation.

 

Here in Wisconsin they waive the deductable on windshields. We have 2 or 3 companies here in Madison alone that will drive anywhere to replace auto glass. They bring all the tools required and do it in the parking lot / at your house / in a parking ramp.... anywhere. A new windshield is just a phone call away!

 

A friend of mine (works for a car glass company) got me the windshield and the rubber molding for a total of 135. Installed it for a six pack.
I guess what i'm saying is it depends on how much the installer wants to make.

 

After a deer tried to run over my car, I had a new one installed back in August for $150 including that piece of $35 crap molding you have to buy.

 

I paid $225 for the windshield, the molding, and installation. Just get some quotes from some local auto glass shops and find out if its better to do it yourself or claim it to the insurance.

 

think mine was 200 installed and everything...

 

Any of you have problems after the install? Extra wind noise/whistles or anything? I have a tiny crack <.5cm and am debating getting it fixed or replacing the whole thing. The only reason I would like to replace the whole thing is b/c of all the light scratches I have from years of hardcore glass cleaning and winshield wipers! But if I risk encountering problems, I'm not going to bother.

Also can insurance say that they don't want to replace the whole thing, just fix the tiny crack?

 

If you don't want them to just fix the tiny crack and really want a new windshield, go outside and bat a baseball through it and tell them some neighborhood kid must have done it.

 

i live in florida and when my windshield got a crack in it i called my insurance company (state farm) they asked if was in my line of sight i said yes because it was then they gave me a 1-800 # to call to get my claim # never cost me a penny

 

i personally believe once you replace a windshield you will never have as good a seal as factory... just been my experience..

mine is allright, im not happy with the sealing(caulking or whatever they use) not as smooth as i wanted it to come out.

but if you just have a minor crack in it, put some superglue in it to seal it, else it usually will continue cracking.. little trick i picked up at the body shop
