Need a new clutch, my 4 yr old RAM Powergrip is slipping. I don't drive the car much, about 500 miles a year. I want something that will stand up to hard launches on BFG Drs and last a while. I know the street twin is the best , but I don't want to shell out $1k for a clutch.

Has anyone tried the stage V?

Stage 4 may be enough for you, i know several people here run them, including myself.

Im very happy.

stage 5 is strickly a track clutch, NOT for street use. its a sintered iron disk, there is no friction material!

With the power you're making and running on dr's I think the 4 would be fine for you as well. If you want the hardest grabbing 4 get the ceramic disc. I have the 4 carbon and its really pretty streetable, hardly any chatter. I hear the ceramic is a little harsher, sounds like it hits harder if thats what you're looking for. The 5 I hear is really extreme, really a track only clutch.

i agree with what all was said above but i thought someone recently made a post about the V and said it was streetable:confused:
maybe they just have high tolerance or everybody else is wrong
if i find the post, i'll post it

All good points. I can probably deal with a track only clutch the twice a month I might drive the car on the street.
Does anyone know anyone who actually has it on an LT1?

You could also consider a Ram Powergrip HD. It's stage 4-comparable, and it will definitely take some abuse! We have them in stock and ready to ship for $485.99 + shipping. It's a full metallic disc that will take some punishment.

Feel free to give me a call or e-mail me if you have any questions or concerns. If you want to stick with a SPEC clutch, we are also a dealer for them. :) We can get you the stage four for $499 + shipping.

Thanks!

i don't think you understand bright one, what it take a hammer to beat it into your skull?!!

IT'S A TRACK ONLY CLUTCH!
it's made for engaging at high rpms, not for slow takeoffs at all, unless you planning on spinning your tires for a 1/2 mile everytime you take off forget it, get the street twin or a stage 4.

Jeez dude, settle down! The guy is just looking for opinions (as in plural, more than one).

Also, if that clutch is SOOOO extreme, do the guys that buy them have to push their cars up to the starting line, or do they just do a burn out the whole way from the pits?

The stage 4 also specifically says "Not for street use" on it. It has been in my daily driver and i have no complaints what so ever. Only problem i ever had was in very heavy stop and go traffic, it heated up and got grabby.

I have a spec v just have not got it in the car yet. should have it running before the end of the month hope fully much sooner. for a car that see 500 mile a year go for it. unless all 500 mile are in rush hour traffic there is not way it could be all that bad. they you could not drive 500 miles.

TRACK ONLY means it doesn't have good street manners, I would like to know the extent of its bad street manners from someone who owns one. My CC306 really sucks driving in traffic, but I put up with it because this car only goes to the track and back and maybe to work and back for a few days if my truck is broken.

Maybe I like spinning my tires for 1/2 a mile...

well do what you want, when i read sintered iron disk i knew what it meant.
i've seen others on the board make the mistake and put that clutch in only to take it right back out and move to another clutch.

just trying to save you alot of grief.
yeah, it will take off slower but it will screatch and make a ton of noise doing it, wanna talk about chatter...

do what you like and when you find out the hard way post it up for all of us to see so others may learn..

I drove my spec stage 5 around on the street for the first time last night. there is no reason that you could not drive it every day if you are used to driving a stage 3. to me it felt the same.

Here's a news flash for you guys... :D

If you're bent on taking your track car down the street, this (http://www.redlineperformanceengineering.com/lt1clutch.htm) may be the answer. Just look under the spec clutches for their optional stuff. It's even more expensive but it may be what you're looking for.

I looked at the stage 3f but is has a sprung hub (i had springs break out in the past) holds less power then the stage five and cost more. drove mine last night then got stuck in bumper to bumper trafic behind a wreck then i stared to rain. I drove it to work in rush hour today. there is no reason you can not drive this clutch every day.

I suppose anything is better than my trashed stock clutch :( but I wouldn't want to have to drive a stage 5 around town, regardless of how well other people seem to do with it.

why would you say you would not drive a stage 5 regardless of how well other people do with it? Did you drive a stage 5 and did not feel comfortable with it? I bought the clutch becasue i am in a situation where i only have to drive the car as much as i want to. it's not my daily driver. So if the clutch was teribble to drive i could live with it. not sure why you would make a statment like that.

Well if I could drive it when I want it it might be different, but for now my car is my daily driver, plus I deal with traffic in Chicago. If I did put a stage 5 in my car I would probably end up taking it back out. Plus, even with the upgrades I'm doing this spring I won't be making enough power to overwhelm a stage 4- or if I do I'm sure my rear end will break before the clutch does.
