ChevyTuffD.A. 01-30-2005, 04:04 PM With the addition of my new gears and tuning. I was just wanting to get a few opinions on how I would fair against an ls1 SS auto and 6-speed. U can get a good idea of what my car was doing before the gears and tune by looking at my 1/8th mile times, remember those are with 2.73 gears and untuned. Thanks for looking, Dustin.
GPZ28 01-30-2005, 04:20 PM Dont really remember my et, but I have a 99z with boltons and run 85mph all day long with a 2.1xxx 60' and street tires.
I have auto with 323's
not to toot my own horn but you have your work cut out for ya but it is possible.
These cars get it on, even in auto form.
calfirebird 01-30-2005, 05:53 PM I dont know if you run from 0-55 yes after that the Ls1 is going to come like a freight train. Throw a cam in there and then race them. :) But i would say no.
Antz97ZNJ 01-30-2005, 09:43 PM Depending on how far you race id say, when the speeds rise its tough to keep up w/ a good running ls1 w/ basically bolt ons...6spd wil run ya hard uptop...auto should edge you out
brickhoss 02-01-2005, 10:11 AM Its hard to find a car that pulls away like an LS1 after 60... Its depressing, because you think you're doin okay with the little ol' LT1 until that point... and then it just gets ugly... :)
wicked02ss 02-01-2005, 06:15 PM Thats the truth, my ls1 honestly doesnt fell the fast under daily driving, not until I bring up the RPMs to about 3K. Then I get moving especially at hight speeds above 60. Good luck. Dammit I need to get mods $.
Bersaglieri 02-02-2005, 08:34 PM I think with traction, gears, and stall you'll jump ahead at first but I dont think you have the HP to hold him off for long. Just brake once you hit 50 ;) Racing from a roll I think the LS1 SS would edge you out especially if its a M6.

ChevyTuffD.A. 02-03-2005, 08:45 PM How about a GTO????
Bersaglieri 02-03-2005, 08:49 PM I raced a GTO twice. Brand new with 30 day tags. From a stop he killed me, I had no traction on the moist road up to about 2.5-3rd gear, he had traction control. From a 35mph roll I killed him by about 4-6 car lengths. It was an Auto and the driver was obviously new to the car. No way you can screw it up from a roll though.

ChevyTuffD.A. 02-03-2005, 08:51 PM I got a race with a girl comin up, she just got an 04 GTO. By the way, there aint room for 2 Dustin's on this board. :dead: Just kidding, peace out, Dustin.

Yea no kidding, I mis-read your first post and was thinking "How in the hell does he know I am looking at this?"

ChevyTuffD.A. 02-03-2005, 09:02 PM lol, thats funny. How far from the Indiana line are u?
Bersaglieri 02-03-2005, 09:51 PM I am on the Eastern side of Ohio. Mapquest can tell you exactly where Salem and Youngstown Ohio are. I'd say to Indiana would be a prety long drive.

If you wanna run an LS1 SS we could set something up.....I'm not that far from you....although then again I'm not stock. :p
ChevyTuffD.A. 02-06-2005, 05:11 PM LOL, at least let me get a cam in my car first. Maybe some spray to just for insurance. :)
97bowtie 02-06-2005, 09:57 PM As others have said, a well driven LS1 SS should pull you pretty hard, especially as speeds increase. To give you an idea, I ran an 8.6 @ 83.5 and 13.4 @ 106.5 bone stock in my SS. It would be a close race to ~ 60 mph, then the LS1 would pull a few car lenghts on you.
GR8RIDE_96 02-07-2005, 02:05 AM i raced a 99 SS (auto, w/ hi-stall, lid, catback & nitto's) all that i had at the time was k&n CAI, pulley, catback, ported MAF. also i have M6. i was running on firestone Z-rated tires. first run from a stop he smoked me off the line, as i just sat there and spun, once i hooked i caught up slightly, but not much and then he stayed same distance in front. then we raced from a roll(about 20mph), all the way up to about 110mph with a very equal start, and at the end, his nose was at my passenger door.
so as you can see, there is hope for you, but it also depends on how you drive.
but anyway, i wish you luck!

Not really of topic but what kinda mods do u have to make 381rwhp? I'm not 2 sure about how much it takes from you ls1 guys to put out those numbers. But I would believe total cost 2 get to that rwhp range including car would be cheaper with a lt-1? No pun/flame intended. I was thinking of trading in my lt1 but that's the power that I'm looking for, but it will probably be easier to get there with my stock lt1 cost wise.

Mods are, Lid, Jet Hot LTs, cutout, TSP 233/239 cam, untuned.
Sure, you can reach 380 rwhp NA cheaper with an LT1 (including the cost of the car). However, you will generally be dealing with a higher mileage LT1 with heads/cam. A higher mileage LT1 with heads/cam is more prone to blow up than a low mileage, cammed LS1.

Ouch. Sounds like a dud LS1. Given that your car trapped 104 with headers, I assume you were trapping in the 101 range when you ran that SS. A properly running mild bolt-on LS1 should have pulled you pretty good.

Should have pulled him really easily.WHen My LS1 was stock it would have Killed a LT1 trapping 105. As a matter of fact...It did!
A lid/catback LS1 should have been a monster on the higway. He either had mechanical problems or had one crappy running LS1.
With a lid/catback he should have been trapping at least 107.
