actually, if I were building a good auto tranny I would want a TH350 or if wanted mega power TH400.. 350 should hold though..
give it a manual/auto valve body..
3500-3800 stall.. life would be fun...

the 4L80E would cost about double what shapiro said. i was looking into this optino until i found out price and a few other very important variables:

parasitic loss would be big...this tranny weighs app. another 100lbs. than the existing 4L60E. you will lose app. another 20rwhp from this tranny.

the 4L80E doesnt fit in its current form. you CANNOT buy that tranny and expect to toss it in and have it fit perfectly, it wont happen. there are companies that make the "conversion kit", however, youll need much modifying to the underside of the car.

the only way it would be worth it is if you are pushing big big hp. im talking over 800 at the wheels. other than that, its not worth the price and hassle.

Shapiro, you can have my tranny for free, I will trade you even up!!!! If you decide to go this route let me know, I am first in line. I have 18K on the tranny and has seen the track once. My dad owned the car for the 1st 14K and it was just driven to work back and forth..he is in his mid 50's and never abused the car. Let me know.

What year Corvette? I was under the impression that trannies for LT1/LT4 cars wouldn't work with an LS1...and that the LS1 vette 6 speeds were different than the F-body LS1 6 speeds. Anybody else wanna chime in here and correct me if I am wrong?

EDIT: Also where are you located, if its close enough could I drive to your shop and we could do the swap there?

6speedZ28, you must be dying to get a 6speed..

Why for?
Just curious...

I know my A4 was way faster than my M6..

And that was without converter.. If I had a converter I am sure I would of had a 12 sec timeslip.

My old Z28 was a 6 speed and I loved driving it, I just like shifting gears, plus all the women said it was sexy to see me take control of the car like that :D

...........yeah, a TH350/400 with a Gear Vendor over-drive!!!:D Bullet-proof strength and durability without lost fuel economy!!!;)

Have you (or anyone else) done a swap to a TH350 or TH400??? Do either (or both) fit right into place of the 4L60E?? I figure a TH350 should, but I'm not sure if the TH400 is any bigger (physically). Also, does this have any effect on the car's computer? Or do the wires just get "capped" and you'd never know the difference?

Not that I have anything to worry about right now, (1 - still have warranty, 2 - no money = car is still stock) but one day I would like to have this car running for sure 12's, if not 11's, and "maybe" 10's (if I get carried away!!!!:D) and decide to use N2O!! When that time comes, I don't have much faith in the 4L60E, so I'm almost "expecting" it to fail down the road, so I'd definitely consider swapping to a more proven transmission at that point in time.

Any info would be great;). Thx.
