Bersaglieri 01-29-2005, 03:07 AM I was really nervous about this race, it was a fight from start to finish. I ran into this 99+ Silver GT, evident from the dual exhaust and GT badges, heading home on a highway a few nights ago. I passed him going slightly over the speed limit and he immediately jumped out behind me and was right on my bumper. So I moved calmly into the slow lane on the open highway and I let him have the jump, he pulled on me at first and then I floored it and left him in the dust by several bus lengths. He then attempted a ricer fly by at which I let him get to my rear bumper and hit it again. He stayed even with me until my mighty LT1 downshifted and pulled away immediately, again several bus lengths. I am not sure of his mods, but he put up a good fight for being a Grand Am GT :thumb:

Antz97ZNJ 01-29-2005, 09:58 AM :death: If thise site actually had good smileys you'd be gettin a better one, but for cz28 guess that'll have to do
Steve Y 01-29-2005, 11:49 AM That Grand Am GT driver was clueless or wanted to see your LT1 pound him into the ground, not sure which.
Fast Caddie 01-29-2005, 01:03 PM Those little boogers are pretty quick for what they are. A friend of mine has a white '01 Grand Am GT ram air (no scoops, ram air is in the little grill compartment) and it'll get up and go. I was actually impressed the first time i rode in it. Looks pretty good too.
FIREBIRDMIKE 01-29-2005, 05:19 PM aww man that was crap!, the whole time i thought he was talkilng about a Mustang GT. I always wanted to know how my Z would fair up
Steve Y 01-29-2005, 05:53 PM aww man that was crap!, the whole time i thought he was talkilng about a Mustang GT. I always wanted to know how my Z would fair up
Tell us what year Z you have, what trans. what gears and what mods. We will guesstimate how you will fare with a 99+ GT. I have one so I know pretty well what Zs do against me.
Bersaglieri 01-29-2005, 06:55 PM Mwuahahaha, I knew I'd get a few of you with that one. I wasnt going to post it at first but I figured I could turn a relatively lame kill into a fun one.
As for the GT, I dont think he saw my badges in the dark, although he actually ran pretty well for a V6, I'm sure he has some V6 Camaro kills under his belt and figured he could pull off one more, but not so!
As for fairing against a Mustang GT 99+ you'd murder Steve's slow POS ;) But tell us your mods anyways. As long as you have the !V6 mod you should fair pretty well against unmodded GT's, if your decently modded then dont worry about it. I dont feel they respond to mods as well as LT1's do.
Thanks for the replies.

Eddie Z-28 01-30-2005, 12:35 AM Yeah I have fun taking down the 99+ GTs and personally don't even bother with the 96 to 98's.
But to add to the Grand Am GT subject? My friend has an 03 Ram Air (with the hood) that has headers, a catback, CAI, pullies, and a shift kit. I drove it last night and it screams.
grannycar 01-30-2005, 07:06 PM nice kill lol..as far as 99 up mustang gts..dont under estimate them..my twin has a 99 gt with a catback 5 speed wit 327 gears.. and its a good race from start to finish in my 95 trans am aut0 with 273..i raced him when my car was stock though:( he would slighty pull.. now i have a catback cai, bypassed t/b, 2500 stall and built trans and hope to beat his painties..he swears his car is god..and for saying to to race 96-98 gt's.. i hade a 97 gt with stock pi heads cam intake off a 99 up gt, which also bumps the c/r to 10.5:1..gears all bolt ons, and would love to play around with lightly modded ls1's.."catbacks, air lids cai etc.." but anything more probally would destroy my 97..had trpuble with some m6's though :)
grannycar 01-30-2005, 07:08 PM oh yea, my twin ran 14 flats at 98 with his 99 gt..BONE stock.. and that was his 5 day haveing the car
FIREBIRDMIKE 01-30-2005, 08:57 PM so would i get beat by a stang 99+ in my 94z28 a4 2.73 car with only a flow master and KN?
unvc92camarors 01-30-2005, 10:43 PM so would i get beat by a stang 99+ in my 94z28 a4 2.73 car with only a flow master and KN?
it'd be close
those gears really hold you back off the line (make it easier for traction, but you get less acceleration)
from a roll, i think you'd beat an auto, but a 5spd would be a close race
FIREBIRDMIKE 01-31-2005, 06:05 AM i have heard alot of guys also say how you can go at wot in a 273 car and it seems when i do the car still spins all the way through 1st (let off before 2nd so i dont know if it will keep going, for the trannys sake we wont find out :p ) it just seems to gradually spin up, like i am guessing with a 3.23 car the second you hit it is when it would start spinning but once i hit lite maybe 3grand both tires start whalin sideways. I tried! :D a few times too, it might be the near plastic tread compound thats in my futura GTX supersport tires but being a 245 50 16 is should have some grip to hold it down  and both tires spun it is a G80 car (which i believe most LT1s are?)
BTW i am assumeing with the 373 richmond gears i just bought for a 94z28 with a 2 series carrier would make a hugh difference? would that put me into the 13s? i guess it dont maytter since they are paid for but since we are talking about gears i thought id just bring that up...
Crazy95Z 01-31-2005, 05:34 PM I used to be able to floor the car off the line with my 2.73's and have no traction problems. After i put in the new lt1 and the 2600 stall it was no use racing anyone with my street tires bc I was completely peeling out for about 60ft. I have Nittos now and they hook very well if its warm outside. I will have 3.73's here soon when i get my tranny and rear end put back in and its going to be a heck of a time!! :thumb:
Bersaglieri 02-04-2005, 01:29 AM Those 2.73's are dogs, trade em in for 3.23/3.42/ or 3/73's. With my 3.23's traction is nonexistant since my bolt ons. Poor GSC tires...
