i am interested in running a mobil 1 oil in my 350 tpi...i have always use just regular old mobil since i have owned the 87 camaro...the car has 87000 on iti have put 18000 of my own miles on it. the reason for the quesion is that i have heard that mobil 1 has such great cleaning power it may knock dirt loose in the engine and damage it...i have also heard that it may then start to burn oil....are these storys just that or are these things true????

I have heard things like that in the past, but the majority of people will tell ya nothing will happen....

Just do a search on synthetic oil... you'll find lots of people who have asked the same question.

I just started putting synthetic oil in the wife's Civic about 20k miles ago.....it has 190k on it right now. Nothing seemed to happen.
My camaro didn't start getting Mobil 1 synthetic until it had 70k miles.......again nothing happened.

I heard similar things, but I switched over to Mobil 1 when my Z28 was about 70K miles as well. Now close to 90K...still not a drop of oil leaked or burned (knock on wood) :D . But, I did use Valvoline Syntec for 69,999K miles as well...so I was going synthetic to synthetic.
I think you'll be fine.

i have a 1992 rs that i run mobil 1 10w30 and the only thing that i have is a small oil leak from the rear main seal
the car has 114k on it and runs great!! synthetic will not sludge up like regular oil tho it will get dirty and needs to be changed every 3000 miles.
