Realistically... whats right?

Ok im an ex lt1 guy thats been out of the game for a year or two. Im getting myself an 02 trans am ws6, loaded... a4 within the next couple weeks. The one im most serious about has 10,300 on the clock and is completely stock. i would like to know... what are your average, realistic run times for that car and decently experienced driver (tho it is just an auto) figure a good set of street tires and average track. about 60 degrees and a medium humidity of like 50%. Then, throw a set of radials on... and drop the temp 20 degrees and the humidity 20%... whats the best your gonna see outta that car stock?

also, friend of mine had an 02 ws6 a4, 2,500 miles slp long tubes, slp loudmouth, shift kit (strong), k@n intake, and aparantly some major computer work (it was suppose to be stock... but you couldn't hide the shift kit, no speed governor and the fact that it redlined 6900 RPMS IN 2ND GEAR) he had goodyear f1's on it and ran a best of 13.34 in about 55 degrees and a high humidity and a 60 of 2.1 i believe. we were all expecting from the mods and the way it felt to drive compared to ours that with proper traction he would hit at least high 12's... were we wrong? or did my virgin-racing friend get a good set of runs out of what he had?

With LS1's, as with any car, you're going to get #'s all over the map. Hell, I've got #'s all over the place for my car, which I've had since brand new:rolleyes:.

ANY LS1 can run from low 14's, to high 12's, completely bone stock;). On "average", you will see ~mid 13's (13.4 - 13.6) at speeds between ~103 - 108 mph. Your buddy's 13.3 was likely suffering poor traction, based on that 2.1 60' time.

Do you know whether your WS6 will have 3.23's or 2.73's?:think: Again though, gears won't make an ounce of difference if you can't hook. I proved that by going 2.73 --> 3.73 and running the same time at the track. However, now with the 4.10's and better tires, I've cut 4 tenths off my time, and picked up about ~2 mph:thumb:.

Usually the 6-speeds are good for lower 13's, and speeds a little higher --- ~106 - 110:cool:.

02's run exceptionally strong, w/ 323's you should run deep in the 13's w/ a good 60

Do you know whether your WS6 will have 3.23's or 2.73's?:think: Correct me if im wrong but doesnt all auto ws6's come w/ the performance axle 323's.

I will agree w/ the 3.23 for an a4. Check for GU5 in the door fot a 3.23 gear.

All SS/WS6 cars have 3.23 w/A4 and all M6 cars have 3.42

Only Z28/Formula/Trans Am come standard with the 2.73 w/A4

You might get lucky and run a 13.2 @ 106 or something stock. You wouldn't be the first. Some people go even faster.

Sorry Cody, not true. I have a Z28 w/ a GU5 code that is a 3.23(now 3.73 ;) ).

I ran 13.8 @104 bone stock my first time ever at the track with a really bad 60' time, so 13.5 to 13.2 is definitely doable in an '02.

I said 2.73 were standard. The GU5 3.23 were the high performance gear option on all A4 F-Bodies 1993-2002. Unless they were allready WS6 or SS.

You might get lucky and run a 13.2 @ 106 or something stock. You wouldn't be the first. Some people go even faster.
Yep..there is a guy in the loacl club who ran consistant 13.2's out of his stock formula Automatic w/drag radials . It was an 01 .

Most autos run mid to low 13's depending on conditions and trap 104-105mph. M6's are similar and trap 2-3 mph more.

As for telling the difference in gears, when you drive an A4, note where the tach is in relation to speed such as WOT shiftpoints and highway cruising. 3.23 cars shift around 48ish at WOT into 2nd, 2.73 cars are around 55. On the 2-3 shift, 85mph is the shift point for 3.23's, and just under 100mph is where 2.73 cars shift. Also, another common way is to cruise at 70 in 3rd gear. If the rpms are around 2700-2800, it's 2.73's and around 3300 is 3.23 gears. good luck and have fun with your LS1. :)

the guys are right... being a ws6... it is without question the 3.23

you are correct in all your numbers tho i know with my old car, which had 2:73's my wot shift points were 55 & 96 mph when i broke my transmission i was able to drive it around even on the interstate for 2 months + with only 1st and 2nd gear because of my super high gears. 70mph tached right around 2750, perfectly safe. just didn't get the greatest milage =]

Stupid question for someone who did his own swap. Does the computer relate shifting to speed at all? If it does I think I might have a problem, either that or my tranny just needs the rebuild like I thought. (my engine is out of a 99 w/2.73s and when i had stock 3.23s and also including my new 4.10s it always shifts at 5500 during WOT).
