in traffic mine runs with fan off about 240 ,with fan on about 200-225 is this normal for an 84 z28 with the 305? tyhanks for your help.

 

Unfortunately, our cars run real hot. Mine did about the same, 220 all around, till I swapped stats and put a better fan switch in. I also rigged up a manual fan switch under the dash for city traffic.

Yours should still have a manual fan, try a lower thermostat, like a 180, no lower just yet, a 160 might interfere with the comp. Also you can try flushing the radiator, might be clogged. I think mine is at the moment and I will be looking into that! Hope this helped
