Got my FF75 headlights installed, didnt have to dremel anything out, just took the stock stuff out and bolted the new ones in. (Those 5.5mm adjuster screws were a bitch to get out!)
Anyways, hope you guys like em and hopefully someone can use the pics to mount their own and ditch the crappy stock headlights!
How should I aim these? Where should I try to get the beam to go? Right now I only have the low and high beams in, I will be adding fogs later on though, gotta exchange them to get the actual fog version. THANKS!!
Z28Nut 01-07-2005, 10:22 PM Hey, great job Serene. Very clean install. They sure look better than the stock ones, don't they?
As far as aiming, it's kinda subjective and mostly trial and error. To start out if your driveway is flat, pull up about 25' away from your garage door or if that's not pratical, find a parking lot that is flat and level and park 25' away from the side of a building. Have the lows on and line them up so the center of the beam pattern is in line with the light itself (aimed straight ahead). This takes care of the horizontal aiming. Now for the vertical, you want the top of the hot spot or brightest part of the beam about even with the height of your headlights. With the driving beams I'm not real familiar because my Hella 90mm's have a very sharp cut-off on the beam -- read no light above this -- so I put this cut-off about an inch below the light height. The driving beams will probably have to be aimed a little lower so not to blind other drivers (too bad . . . ;) ). Turn on the highbeams and aim their hotspots a bit higher than the lows, you want them lighting up the road, not the tree tops. Drive the car down an unlit road and see how ya like 'em. You'll have to find a happy medium between getting brighted alot and being able to see far enough ahead. Adjust, drive, readjust, drive, etc. I readjusted mine about 10 times before I was really happy and haven't touched them since.
Again, great job and enjoy being able to see at night!
Makaveli 01-07-2005, 11:07 PM those look great, the second and third pics arent loading for me, but judging by the first pic it looks like a very clean install. what watt bulbs did you end up using in them? were they a direct stock replacement sort of deal and did you have to wire anything up? very impressive looking
Serene 01-08-2005, 10:16 PM all the pictures work fine for me.
i just have the hella bulbs in them that came with them, 55W i think. You can use the stock wiring, I chose to use hellas relay setup cause I imagine I may get the 100W bulbs to light up the road better with the brights and fogs, the stock wiring is heavy though, so I could have just used that.
I just took all the stock headlight crap out, and drilled four holes after I mounted them up. No cutting, no nothing, totally reversible.
I suppose I could paint the bolts black, but it doesnt really matter to me
Makaveli 01-08-2005, 11:29 PM now i see the pictures, that looks a lot better than i thought up close.
Brent94Z 01-09-2005, 09:04 AM Most the headlight talk happens in the Appearance Section. I'll move this there :D
Serene 01-09-2005, 11:11 PM Thanks Brent!
Serene 01-10-2005, 12:28 AM adjusted the lights, damn what a difference!!!
Adjusting is easy, especially if you take that center piece out of the headlight area. (between the 2 lights)
94BlackBowtie 01-10-2005, 07:54 AM It looks like you installed yours EXACTLY like me (except I did paint my bolts black :D).
I took out the little center piece as well.
Aiming is still somewhat a tedious task, but once you figure it out, it isn't so bad. I am also waiting to get my fogs installed. I still love my 1LE deletes, but I think I want fogs back now.
Nice install man. :thumb:
Serene 01-10-2005, 03:27 PM maybe if I decide to put some higher wattage bulbs in the brights i'll paint them black;)
Z95m6 01-11-2005, 11:43 PM Serene do you have the measurements of where you drilled your holes for the Hellas? Thanks Claude
94BlackBowtie 01-12-2005, 08:48 AM Serene do you have the measurements of where you drilled your holes for the Hellas? Thanks Claude
Just get the lights lined up where they are about center of each section and drill your holes there. Use the brackets with the studs on them as a reference. Don't need exact measurements - just get it to where it fits nicely. :)
Serene 01-12-2005, 10:48 AM Thats all I did, make sure you have decent movement up and down, and a little bit rotating on the stud. Take the stud out to place them so you can get the bracket flush. I used washers to space it down cause there are ribs there that interfere. I can get measurements this weekend if you want.
JAG05 01-12-2005, 06:35 PM How much did all those lights cost?

wow thats hott, looks like i may be doing some more to the car, is the install fairly easy ?
Serene 01-13-2005, 05:34 PM yes, just pull the old stuff out, drill a hole and put the new ones in. very simple, and very easy to adjust.
The stock adjusters with the 5.5mm screws take awhile to get out, just get a 5.5mm wrench and tie a string to the closed end so you dont lose it, take your time and they will come out
94BlackBowtie 01-14-2005, 10:27 AM Just everything Serene said. It is really straitforward - I don't understand why all the same questions get asked in 50 different threads.
This pic was right after installing the first time.

There - you see a rubber washer like piece used as a bit of a spacer - I put a nut on there to space it down the next day.
I am hoping to get a couple of new sets of these, and doing an install on my car with some pics and someone elses with some pics - so we'll see.
93zder 01-14-2005, 01:39 PM Guys - those look great !! I just finished installing brighter bulbs in my stock housings - i guess these would be even brighter ?
Are these bulbs like the 9006's so they are replacable with something like the Xenon type ?
So you guys got them off ebay for like $29 shipped ??
94BlackBowtie 01-14-2005, 05:47 PM 93zder-
Yes, brighter.
Yes, replaceable - H7 bulbs.
Yes, cheap on eBay - search for "FF75". (I think best/cheapest seller is offroad911).
Here's another quick pic of my current spacing setup.

zx1216 01-15-2005, 11:57 PM hey, looks pretty good, any pics at night when they are lit up? Can you use a HID set up with these?? I've driven a few aidi's with hid lighting and it is awesome.
Z95m6 01-16-2005, 01:37 AM I installed my FF75's and they are awesome. I used fender washers on top and bottom of mine to help spread the load out. I was afraid of that plastic cracking. Maybe i'm just paranoid. I also figured the more area my spacer has the more contact surface my bracket has and the less prone to vibration it would have. To all you guys that are upgrading the bulbs to 55watt + i'm just wondering did your Hella instructions say not to do that? My Hella instructions said to not use anything above a 55 watt bulb. I was gonna order a spare set of bulbs to have around and i was wondering if it was ok to get something a little bigger. Thanks

The instructions also said that the FF75's aren't DOT approved for use as headlights, and that they are only to be used as an auxiliary light. :)

Thats true but i guess i was just wondering would the extra wattage cause damage to the wiring harness or the extra heat from the bulb damage the reflector or anything. Also whats the max. safe voltage to run on a stock wiring harness?

You will be fine on a totally stock system up to 85w...but I would reccommend a relay for anything over 55w anyhow. With a relay - and the Hella's, feel free to go up to a 100 watt bulb without ever sweating it on the stock wiring.

Will any H7 bulb fit? i guess i just want to find some cheap good quality 85-100 watt bulbs. Thanks Claude
94BlackBowtie 01-18-2005, 09:11 AM Cheap, good quality, high wattage?
Luks 100w H7 from here. (http://lightingresearch.com/store/product_info.php?cPath=24&products_id=72)
Just select 100w insted of 55w and you are set.
Any H7 bulb will fit.
Makaveli 01-18-2005, 03:17 PM this may be a dumb question, but do you leave the 55 watt in both the brights and the high's? or do you only upgrade to the 100 watt for the highs?
Serene 01-18-2005, 03:35 PM i have just the 55w in both, i always forget to turn my brights on now cause the lows are fine
BJPZ28 01-18-2005, 04:35 PM cheaper than stock- one stock light bulb $25 each
camaroz28_97 01-18-2005, 05:34 PM I did the swap and deff think it is worth it. Much brighter than stock. I got them off E-bay from offroad911 great price and got them in a few days. The boxes where a little old looking but who cares the lights where new. the only thing is that the lights put all most all of the light in front of you there isn't much on the sides but it still is a huge improvement over stock. Now I just need 2 more for fogs and some brighter bulbs the highs :p .
Here is a few pics of how I installed mine.

Z28Nut 01-18-2005, 10:51 PM camaroz28 97 -- Great job, the install looks sharp. Great job on the install page, too. FF50 or FF75 fogs will really help with the side lighting when you install them. I've driven past cops in the middle of the night in town with just fogs/markers and haven't gotten hasseled yet.
camaroz28_97 01-19-2005, 12:26 AM z28nut- what should i use as fogs?? should i gut the 50s or the 75s. which ones will give me more light on the side??
EDIT: just looked at hellas website and it looks like the FF75 fog lights give you more light on the sides of the car. Right??
Z28Nut 01-19-2005, 06:01 PM camaroz28_97 -- Uh, I haven't compared the two side by side. I have the FF50s installed because their oval shape better matched the round 90mms. I'm sure they're pretty close in performance, both shapes being freeform reflectors and all so I think it's more a matter of which shape you like. I like all of the lights being FF75s - very consistent style in the few pics I've seen. Yet with 90mm projectors, the stock fogs looked like a$$, way too boxy and square edged. For your car, my vote would be the FF75s. Then again, that's just my opinion.
97z28/m6 02-10-2005, 12:28 PM i'm getting ready to do this so the pics where a great help thanks.

Those two sets are decent deals. You may emailing a guy by the name of offroad911 on ebay. There were several of us guys that bought sets off of him for $38 shipped per set. You can't beat that deal. Getting a set of fogs is a little tougher.
