Snow; how is it out there?

My front tires are brand new winter tires, maybe 95% tread. The rears are kind of lame-ish BF Goodrich winter slalmons with 70%. But still for a small FWD car it sucks in the snow! I have to go to work in Richmond too. How you guys commuting out there?

Oak street is a joke, no slat or anything it is like an ice rink, took me 2 hours to get into work......I need a nice all wheel drive car or truck for the winter....The neon sucks....

4300lb truck with a weight bias of about 70/30, drum brakes (slight pull on braking), automatic trans, pegleg, no roll bars, and tires that are rock hard.
The thing will step out on you without any warning and with the low ratio box and 16" steering wheel it gets real busy trying to get it straight :D . I have pretty good traction in reverse so if I get stuck I can back out of it..... I hope. Only good thing about the old brute is it doesnt have ABS so you can build a snow wedge to stop. Right now the roads are clear in White rock S. surrey now but getting some large flakes coming down now.

You guys can keep it up there We dont want any down here Believe it or not I've seen snow all over the I-5 on King/Kiro news without a flake up here in BC. :p I kept insurance on the firehawk this winter so far cause we have had some nice sunny days. But the bird wont see daylight in my heated garage in this snow. Hundreds of fender benders in the lower mainland this morning reported on the news. No wonder BC drivers have a bad reputation. :o The way I see it you pay extra insurance premiums cancelling and renewing so I can drive the bird as soon as the dust, I mean the snow settles. :thumb:

Really?
My Golf is incredible in the snow - near unstoppable I would say.....
Strange that your's would be not so good.

I don't even run snow tires, just rain tires.

It took me 30 mins to get to work today. It usually takes me 10-15 depending on traffic. Just down 72nd and over the AF bridge and Im just in Richmond. I dont even want to think what it would be like if I had a longer comute or if I had to deal with Knight street today. I heard that it was shut down most of the day and some very bad accidents at almost all the cross streets. As soon as it rains or snows it seems like all the tarded drivers in the lower mainland come out or everyone suddenly becomes tarded. Good thing I got a little 4X4 truck to get me around.

I live within walking distance from work and so should most people. Why do people commute all over the lower mainland? :shame: ICBC gives a small discount to drivers that commute less than 15k to work. We need more incentives like this so people don't waste time, money, gas, pollution, stress and all the accidents that happen in this type of weather. You'd burn your clutch in no time edging up in traffic too. I can drive to work quicker than warming up my bird, some days in nice weather I bike and I've walked to work too for the excercise. :)

my rear tires probably have less than 20% tread on them and they're all seasons...so far so good :D

Okay so I took the VW to Richmond yesterday and it did much better than I thought! But the only thing that pissed me off is SUVs ripping around like they are invincible! SUVs driving literally 70-80 on snowy streets! Just cause it's a Jeep doesn't mean it can 't end up sideways in a ditch!!
