I've always sprayed the car with my MSD Digital 6, Window switch, MSD coil, etc.
Well, after 2 years of running, my Digital 6 died on me. Sent it back to MSD, and they sent me a new one free (they made a mistake, lol). Couple weeks later, this one fried (I've checked all the wiring and even installed a new wiring harness).
Anyway, I finally got my car sorted out with the heads/cam, and I'm ready to spray it. But I'm running around without my Digital 6. I am also running the stock coil again, vs. my MSD coil (was having ignition related problems, all fixed now, so I'll probably toss the coil back in). Before, I was pulling 3 degrees of timing with the Digital 6.
I'm gonna tune the car a little more tomorrow, and start with a 75 shot, and work my way back up to a 150. The car hasn't been getting any false knock or real knock on 94 Octane N/A, so I'm in the clear so far. I used to run TR6's, but this last time I tossed in some Autolite 104's, gapped to .039.
What's everyone think? Car now has fresh wires/plugs (internally shorted wire and another wire showing high resistance were causing my misfires). I've inspected all of my wires, and checked the resistances on all of them. The plugs are all fresh, vented Opti is new, and overall, my "stock" ignition system should be in great shape.
Currently, I have my window switch set up to cut off at 6600 RPM. Normally N/A I have been shifting at around 6800, since the top end should really be good for 7000-7200, but I don't want to overly push the stock bottom end. Of course, my stock rev limiter has been moved up accordingly. Running stock fuel pressure regulator, 30# SVO's, and a Walbro 255 intank. Running basic NX wet kit w/ all the goodies.
So am I taking a chance without the MSD box? I'll probably just stick with a 75 or 100 shot for now (don't have jets for 125 on hand, and 150 is about the max I'm going to allow myself to go with the heads/cam).
