SS Thriller 01-05-2005, 04:02 AM Just go to Chevy's Website and look under Upcoming Vehicles:

Aeromaks 01-05-2005, 04:29 AM Got to tell you, as much as I am hating GM at the moment, the new wimpalla doesnt look bad. the side looks great, the front end is audi gone a little wrong, and the rear just doesnt look right with that spoiler. Car looks to sit a little high, and has that 4x4 look to it.
Now if they only offered it in AWD, would really light a fire under GM's big rear end. the New monte is a POS plain and simple, just slapped on a new front end. the HHR is also yuckie looking, and why not throw a bigger engine in there?!
the Impalla is hte car to watch, and will be interesting how it compares to the new ford Futura, which really looks awfly nice, especially with comfirned AWD and should come in loaded at around $25ish.
90 Z28SS 01-05-2005, 05:57 AM Looks good on the outside . But they just have revised versions of the same interiors in the current cars , looks like anyways . That kinda a dissappointment .
Darth Xed 01-05-2005, 08:22 AM So far, I am liking all the updates they have made to both cars! :thumb:
Chris 96 WS6 01-05-2005, 08:41 AM I can't believe how good the Monte looks with that new nose. Finally fits the car and looks "chevy" too.
Love the LS4 power, even if its to the wrong wheels.
MissedShift 01-05-2005, 08:55 AM Gotta dig the NASCAR tie in.
How much do you think the France family made on that?
96_Camaro_B4C 01-05-2005, 08:57 AM Sweet! They must have just put this up; yesterday when I clicked on future vehicles, only the Uplander showed up...
Anyway, the Impala interior is totally new and different. It probably uses most of the same mounting points as before, but instrument and controls location/ergonomics were never the problem with the current car. The current interior's problem is the odd shapes in some of the individual plastic pieces, plus too many pieces overall. The new one is much cleaner with much nicer materials. I've seen the actual interior, including the LT/LTZ interior in lighter colors with the woodgrain trim, and it is light years ahead of the current car.
Yeah, it is front wheel drive, but it is a pretty car overall (though I do see just a touch of Accord in the front). 27 mpg hwy estimate for the LS4. :) Not bad for 303 hp in a full five seater sedan. Even the new base engine now has 211 hp (up from 185 in the current car), more than the current car's 205 hp 3800. And it will probably be rated over 30 mpg. Sweet.
The Monte's interior is obviously more derivative of the current car, but the current car has been praised for its interior. It was already nicer than the current Impala's interior to begin with.
Definitely a nicer looking car than the 300/Magnum/Charger( :yuck: ) IMO. Of course, there will still be the standard naysayers who will automatically dismiss the car just because it is still based on the W platform (never mind that it is a sturdy and safe platform)...
If it were RWD, I'd be drooling (OK, if it were RWD and offered a six speed manual). But as a bread and butter family sedan for the next few years, Chevy has a good offering. The current Impala sells very well (albeit with some incentives); this one should continue to do so. Let's hope so, anyway.
Darth Xed 01-05-2005, 09:04 AM One disappoiting thing...
While they look good on both cars, it looks like Chevy has gone back to a more "parts bin" approach with more exterior of the exterior parts... 06 Impala and Monte Carlo share the same headlights.
The 00-05 models were nicely differentiated by distinct headlights. This is a step backwards to the Lumina/Monte Carlo days in this aspect.
So far, though, that is really my only complaint.
WOW   Both cars look very good. Impala it a lot better now that I can see it from a few more angles. 211HP standard, just 2 years ago 200HP was the top engine in the Monte SS. Interiors look great and that engine line up is perfect. Glad to see GM using more 17' & 18" rims. I liked the 4 round tail lamps on the old Impala and will be sad to see them go.
Whats up with the odd ball HP figures? 211HP 3.5L, 172HP 2.4L, 303HP 5.3L?
I think these cars will be a homerun for Chevrolet. :thumb:
Remember Most people still want FWD
unvc92camarors 01-05-2005, 10:54 AM really really like both of them
at first i was unsure, but seeing more pics of them
i think they both look awesome, definately a step in the right direction for both cars imo
2K1SunsetSS 01-05-2005, 11:07 AM I wish the frontends were different. I like the impala but not the monte.
I do like that they are getting the 5.3 :)
SNEAKY NEIL 01-05-2005, 11:11 AM I like the Monte a lot more but the Impala is a big dissapointment for me. I really like the look of the current car and was looking foward to seeing what they would do with the restyle. The Impala lost all of it's form so now it looks anonymous. The tail lights are gone, the character lines off of the fenders are gone, and just about everything else. I guess if you didn't like the car before, this is better but for me I am dissapointed. The interiors do look a good bit better though and the wheels are a big step foward as well. 300+ HP in the SS is also really good as long as the price is right.
305fan 01-05-2005, 11:46 AM I see some Altima in the design. The current car was getting real long in the tooth anyhow. The new one is better.
Nice to see three diffeent engines. The 3500 is up 11hp (from 200) lets hope this move goes to all 3500 powered cars.
The 3900 VVT sounds great--hoping for 260hp or so. Sonds like the 3 valve head..I wonder.
The onlly let down is the 4 speed auto. 2006? Almost every other car in its class has 5-6 speeds.
Still, the car get my vote over that bland and pitifully slow Ford 500 :p
Jason E 01-05-2005, 11:47 AM Both look fantastic. I really, really like the Monte A LOT. The Impala looks much more sophisticated now. They fixed the 2 things I hated most about the Monte...crappy leather on the seats and the ugly beak.
Any news on if MC is staying 2 door when the big re-design comes, or is it switching to 4 door like the rumors keep saying? If so, I may give up the GP a little earlier than planned. I love my big, comfy, FWD TWO DOORS. I prefer RWD in my fun cars, but enjoy FWD in my snow birds. I was thinking Cobalt SS for awhile, but its just too small for me.
I can't believe I actually really LIKE a MC now...amazing.
unvc92camarors 01-05-2005, 12:57 PM anybody else think chevy needs to hire new wheel designers?
Ken S 01-05-2005, 01:09 PM I still don't like the nose.. but they are looking better..
I'd be intrested in seeing the interiors upclose in person.
Caps94ZODG 01-05-2005, 04:46 PM wow the Monte looks really nice...any pics of the rearend?? or is it the same? good freshing of the front..and the engine 300HP WOW :D
Darth Xed 01-05-2005, 04:51 PM wow the Monte looks really nice...any pics of the rearend?? or is it the same? good freshing of the front..and the engine 300HP WOW :D
Ya, pics here:
http://www.autoweek.com/files/specials/2005_detroit/
Looks like a new bumper cover and slighty different taillights on the back (old taillishts were clear with the red circles, these are transparant red with red circles...
0toinsanein5.4sec 01-05-2005, 09:41 PM from what can be seen on the monte's interior it looks nice. I hate when they have extreme closeups on a dial tho. especially when u cant see the rest of the center stack. the impala's interior looks kinda meh. nothing special. but those shots have warmed me up a little to the impalas new front. before i was completely turned off.
also something ive been noticing lately. GM has the ugliest automatic transmissions ever. just plane black and straight back. theyre too big and a waste of space.
Jason E 01-05-2005, 11:03 PM Anyone read the specs on Monte SS? 18s...yummy :D
15 more HP than an LT1, similar weight, a finally-decent look, factory 18s and the ability to go snow-bogging. I'm liking this car :D
