C&D TV - Vette vs Porsche

anyone catch this?

the Vette wins by a point, against the new Porsche 911 Carrera

Basically, they say, the Porsche's steering is more precise, and it stops better.. and on real roads, its a little bit more comfortable..

However, the vette is a wopping $20k less than Porsche, has loads more hp(which more than makes up for a better laptime), still does everything relatively well

They just didn't think the Porsche was worth the $20k more... "for $5k more, the Porsche would definantly be our pick, but for $20k more??"

And they say, first time in history, the Vette is shorter than the 911...

I read the print article of that comparison. If I were still a subscriber to that clownmag, it might have made me cancel (and the GTO/Mustang article would have surely pushed me over the edge if I weren't already there).

I agree wholeheartedly that the Vette was the winner; it was the overall tone of the article that irritated me. Basically, they made it sound (to me) like the Vette was some unrefined beast straight out of the sixties in comparison to the almost serene and perfect Porsche.

thats what i thought too. then i read an article in motor trend where the vette won everything and still lost because of "cheap interior accents" or some bullsh!t like that. total crap if you ask me.

Anybody read the print article?

In there they basically shrug off the Porsche's nasty wheel hop from launch.

The cheaper, heavier, more powerful, and much bigger CTS-V was absolutely blasted by them a few months ago for having the same behavior off the line.

Their bias against GM has really gotten worse in the last year or so.

well, that was just the base vette though
i'm sure the z06 (which is at a closer price to the porsche) could change their minds (or i would hope)

Yes, I about lost my mind when I read that. Of course, there are different writers at the magazine, not just one. But the difference there was night and day. Apparently, it is unacceptable for a high performance $50k sedan to have wheel hop (how many drag races will most CTS-V owners be in?), but in a $75k Porsche it is just a little nuisance that somehow does not detract from the refinement and knife-edge precision of the car.
