The STS TURBO KIT VS ATI PROCHARGER KIT - WHO WILL WIN??

Okay heres the deal. I own a 94 camaro z28 m6. I dont drag race at the strip. I mostly want my car to be a fun weekend car to take out or fool around on the streets with. Giving the same car with the same mods who will win a car with a sts turbo kit or a car with a ati procharger. Prochargers make there boost instantly where a sts turbo kicks in at 3,5k or so from what I read. I been doing reasearch on both. I was interested in the sts turbo but for more money will it really out perform or beat a supercharged car from the line since it kicks in at such high rpm compared to the instant boost from a procharger?. -

I will have to say ATI because I don't like STS and the letter "A" comes before "S".

It would really depend on the driver but all things being equal I would say the Procharger. I haven't been impressed with the runs I've personally seen from any of the STS cars.

The sts turbos seem to make some serious power over the prochargers. I mean 5 pounds of boost would give you more then 8 pounds on a procharger from what Ive seen and read. But like you said I been seeing high 11 second runs with the sts turbos - there allot of guys with 8-10 psi prochargers in high 10's -- must be the instant boost - or something

Im the guy who took off his 630 rwhp d1 setup for a gt70 sts. SC make there full boost at WOT mine was making 600+ but over 6k where the sts made 639 at 4500ish and 10psi with a much smaller cam and 8 degrees less timing. My sts walks all over my d1. These are the facts, I have done it. The d1 is already being sold.

no its cause there stalled autos, no real sts with a stall has gone to test it out. I went 11.5 with my d1 at 127, but on street tiresand a six speed. I will be testing mine in april when they open again and will see how it fairs in the same exact conditions I ran the d1

So you have a sts kit.. What upgraded turbo are you using to make that power

hey there. i have the D1-SC s/c on my 2000 ss now and loved it. i have a 383 LS6 and with 14#'s made 684rwhp. the other guys are right that the s/c, no matter the brand, will only make peak boost at redline. with my setup i did hit 1# at 1,500rpms. the STS kits make peak boost, from what i have read, at around 3,500rpms. i hit about 6-7#'s at 3,500rpms. i have never ran against an STS car so all of this may be worthless sorry. i liked the s/c for the instant power as in a n/a car...so no lag. but if you have a stock motor with the stock compression and the STS then you will still have the natural torq. from your V8 before the turbo kicks in. i got tired of my belt slipping so i am going turbo also. but i decided to go with a T88 under the hood. think long and hard before you decide so you don't end up switching like i did. the s/c may be your best bet since you want a weekend play car. good luck

the SC was snappier as well, the turbo is less violent compared to the SC, personally I think either way your gonna have a blast.

Either way like you said both will be a thrill. I just want to get away from bolt ons. Lt4 hot cam for my only internal mod is not working for me no more. I'm basically shooting for 500 at the wheels. I will be happy with that give or take little. It's really really bothing me on which set-up I should go with. I want to go the cheapest route but something that can get me at 500rwhp. Turbos I like because they look allot easier to install and how it's set-up in the rear to eliminate weight and more cramped stuff under the hood. If I go with the sts turbo I'm going with the t-67 garrett upgraded -Procharger if I decided I would go with the p600b 10-14 psi set-up. I kind of like the t-67. I lot of guys been going from superchargers to turbochargers. Either one is a awesome upgraded compared to bolt ons. I have a 94 camaro with 4:10 gears,58 holley, shorty edlebrock headers, off road pipe, pcm tuned,lt4 hot cam,and the rest of the bolt ons. With the t-67 garrett upgrade how much psi would I need to run to achievce 500 rwhp or more --- with the engine changed with forged pistons, different cam, stock heads??

thanks. i will love the new turbo. it is being put in now. i saw the same exact engine combo as mine with the T88 on a 03 z06 and the pull at lower rpms was the same as mine with the s/c, so no lag. but as it closed in on 2,800rpms the z06 just flat out pulled the s/c by far. i got sponsered for the turbo so it is the top of the line T88 pro-drag race version. full spool by 2,800-3,000. the power comes on smooth like a s/c, not like a importer...no boost or pull til 4000 and then bam..all of it. lag is basically not there. i am really looking forward to it. it will be a blast!

i hit 514rwhp at 7# with the ATI kit on a 383, 8.5:1, and stock cam and longtubes. so you would not need 14+#'s, i wouldn't think, for your car to hit ~500rwhp. the ATI kit is about $3,700 i think. good luck

top of the line T88 pro-drag race version

Who the hell makes this?

it is innovatives new proto-type design based off their regular T88 version with some goodies and stuff done to it. they are sponsoring my car and i will get all the details and info on the turbo this week. but they have seen full boost (set at 16#) by 2,900rpms with a LS6 383 on a 2003 Z06, which is my motor. i just hope it is as nice as they make it sound.

Innovative has some nice stuff, but I think it is WAY to expensive. I got some turbo's price quoted from them, and I think they were more expensive than what I ended up paying for my entire kit with different turbo's, wastegates, BOV, intercooler, and all the piping  Hope you got a deal

i know what you mean about crazy prices. i think the turbo is about 3,500 when it comes out. i am getting it for 1,400 - the base model T88 with no goodies.

Willing to bet it is a one of there water cooled, dual ball bearing jobs, those things spin up crazy fast, my buddy is a Innovative dealer, and i have seen the same turbo in regular oil cooled, and then water cooled ball bearing, and wow what a difference.

i'm sorry, i feel really stupid now. i just talked to the guy building my car and i was wrong. the turbo is from Precision not innovative. the guy building the turbo kit for me knows the right people over there and deals with them directly. this is the link he sent me. after we get the car done and get some #'s and tuning worked out i'll post them. he may also, if everything works out perfectly, start selling this kit.

You can buy from innovative, or a dealer, but ya might get a better deal through a dealer since the dealer gets better pricing than normal joe off the street. Try calling Mach Performance @586-468-6300, they are an Innovative dealer.
