What mods on a 98 Z are emissions legal in California?

I am moving there February 1st. I am getting rid of my no emissions 99 Trans-Am BUT might be getting a 98 Z to take out there.

I am picking it up for $3500 because it has a blown head gasket.

While I am in there fixing the head gasket I would like to mod it (anything from just headers to all out heads, cam and intake) but I am not sure what I can do to it and still pass California emissions.

Would MAC headers (mid-length) with cats pass? How about an LS6 intake with no EGR? Is there anyway to pass with heads or car?

ANY input is much appreciated, thanks guys!

To answer the first two... NO

The only headers that will work is a shortie type, a TR224 cam will works as well, some head work as well will fly. Now just a reminder everything must have a CARB# sticker to pass visual testing.

Edit: To add to that, I forgot your OBDII. So testing can be harder. They use the plug in testing to find codes stored on the pcm.

California Air Resources Board

You need CARB approval for all aftermarket parts in CA. Here is the web site
link for the database of Executive Orders for approved products:

The LS6 intake will work, but keep the EGR.
:)
It's an OEM part, so no worries.
They would never know if a set of ported heads were on there either.
