Yikes!!! new mustang gt into the 12s
Yikes!!! new mustang gt into the 12s
I just read my Dad's new hotrod magazine and they have already got the new mustang gt into the 12s. All they did to the car was some weight reduction, custom built cai, slicks, gears, and they had a guy from super chips tune it. I dont have the issue right now(lost it somewhere) but i think the best time that they ran was a 12.30 or something in the low 12s. This scares me because the tune was what woke the car up the most and super chips is gona make a chip with the same to availive.
just though i would let you guys know incase you run into a modded one and dont think its fast.

Yea its amazing what slicks, gears, weight loss and a good tune can do. I'm sure I could loose an easy second off my ET with all that. But its not like you run into a car like that on the street anyway.
Re: Yikes!!! new mustang gt into the 12s
I'll give props to any "stock" internals car that runs low 12's, but give all the credit to Paul's High Performance.
All of the engine changes only picked up about 25 hp, and still left the mod motor behind most stock LS1's. The major changes that Superchips made let them smoke the tires and probably raised the revs. All of the real time is in the chassis.
It's kind of the old NHRA Super Stock theory - maximize the stock engines power, then plant every last bit of it in the most efficient manner. Think about the NHRA 66/67 Nova's that ran even faster - on old school technology.
I wouldn't want it as a daily driver, though - those 4.30 gears are a little steep for me. Probably handles like crap, too.

Re: Yikes!!! new mustang gt into the 12s
Don't get me wrong - I really like the new GT, and 300 hp is more than adequate for daily driver. I was considering selling my '92Z to get one, but not if the composite pistons are as fragile as initially reported (I was thinking boost - it's wouldn't be a daily driver).
Your right about the mod motors wanting to rev - I just wouldn't want the daily gas mileage penalty, even with the overdrive. My Z has 3.73's, and I was thinking 4.10's - but I have a T-56 in it. Now if I were to put a 6 speed in the GT.....

I think that only proves the point... what happened between 1993 and 2002, when Fbodies pretty much dominated Mustangs? Even if we say that it took Ford a few years to come up with the '03 Cobra, that's still close to 7 years when Ford did little to bridge the gap.
On the other hand, Chevy just dumping it's pony car... pitiful.

GT VS Z28 wasn't a good race for the run of the 4th gen.
If you considered a same year Mustang versus same year F-Body.
The DOHC 4.6 Cobra really was a good step for Ford, and a 96 ~ 97 Cobra would give a 96 ~ 97 LT1 a run for its money. But once the LS1 hit in 98 it was back to business as usual
. The 03/04 Cobra & Mach 1 were the next Stangs to "lift the bar" from what I can tell.

What's an '03-'04 Cobra put down on average, about 365-370 RWHP and they run about 12.5-6@111-113 stock with a good driver?
My friend has an '01 6 spd. Z28 that weighs about 3,500 lbs. with a lid, Loudmouth, K&N and drag radials and 322RWHP/338 RWTQ and has a best time of 12.5@111.

Not true AT ALL.

'03/'04 Cobras put down more HP to run the same ET vs LS1 FBodies.....
EDIT: BTW I havent been beaten by one yet and have raced 4 with varying mods. Not saying thats the rule but nobody has "stomped" me....I reeled in every one by the top of third and passed by the top of 4.. With less hp. Maybe its the air....

no offense, just stating fact...

well a supercharger will do that, if an ls1 came supercharged stock it would prolly be high 11's low 12's
