Does the vortech race bypass valve fit in the same place as the stock one?

Im just wondering if I have to do any fabbing or not. Does the new bypass valve fit where the old one did? If not, where do I put it and how.. Also what do I do with the stock one and the hole?

I have the aftercooler on my car and a custom intake tube, I mounted the race bypass in the same location just fabbed up the plates and miged it all in. I used a piece of gates 1.75 heater hose to connect.

H ave pics not sure how to post them, Just cut off the little 3/4 bung on aftecooler tubing and fit the 1.75 tube and flange. An old gm high tech has a guy that fabbed one up on a TA called black and blown on cover, photos too.

Vortech says anything 10 psi and up, you need a bigger bypass...so

I ended up cutting the original steel stub off of the intake pipe, drilling a bigger hole, and welding a piece of 1-3/4" steel tubing in its place with some reinforcing sheet metal around it. I put the bypass valve down under the car near the air filter with a piece of 1-3/4" gates hose. The valve is venting to atmosphere. If you put your hand just in front of the driver side front wheel, you can feel just how much air is coming out. IT has worked perfect, no problems at all. :)

I have a vortech system with the plastic elbow.. No intercooler piping or anything. I guess I have to block that off and do it somewhere else?

JFS,

Nice Pics.

What are you runnin, a T-trim? How much boost?
JFS looks like he's running the mondo bypass valve.

Anyway, countrymusic you may have to fab up a custom intake pipe and scrap that plastic unit. Your going to need some 3" mandrel bent pipe. The blue race bypass valve is much smaller than the mondo unit btw.

I have new pullies sitting here that I want to put on along with a methanol kit. I would love to just go with an intercooler for simplicity but I dont have the money. Anyhow I have a 7" crank pulley and a 2.65 blower pulley waiting to go on.. I know this bypass valve is going to have to be changed. Can I bring the plastic elbow to a fab shop and have them make a duplicate of it but metal?

Yes, you could possibly bring it to a shop to duplicate that plastic part, but if it were me, I would bring the entire car there to make sure the fabricated part fits and doesn't interfere with anything else. Keep in mind the outlet of the blower is 2.75", so you need a silicon hose adaptor, 2.75" to 3.0". On the other side of the pipe you will need a 3.0" to 3.5" silicon expansion cause the throttle body 90 deg inlet pipe is 3.5" od.

Since your not running an aftercooler, your setup is quite different than mine.
I would recommend getting the aftercooler over an intercooler. I've tried both and like the aftercooler better. The only exception is the intercooler leaves more room in the engine compartment. The aftercooler leaves more room underneath the car.
