Syclone programming?

Do any of the Syclone trucks use eeprom pcms?

I have Tunercat for my Camaro but didn't know if I could use it for the truck. It needs a program badly. Where are some places I can get one from?

Sy/Ty's use a 749 ECM which is very similar to a TPI 730 ECM. These both use a Memcal with a 256K Eprom not an EEprom. Craig Moates has the stuff to convert to EEprom plus some tune on the fly neat stuff. (Moates.net). Tunercat has a $58 Def file for the Cyclones. There's also some other freeware for tuning Sy/Tys. 58 mask is pretty good for boosted applications but won't work too well with your optispark. Convert to HEI, ditch the MAF and your golden.

What were you talking about with my Camaro? My Camaro is good to go. Just didn't know if I could use Tuner. My friend is working on the truck and I figured I would help him out with the tuning part as he is a Ford and carburetor guy.:) I figured I would just get a custom burnt chip for the syclone to the truck running decent.

Where could I find these free programs for the syclone? Any free logging programs?

Oops sorry, I'll slow down. I thought since you are running boost on the Camaro you wanted a SyTy ECM to manage Boost Fueling and Boost Timing. The stock Sy/Ty computer only has an E-prom not an EE or flash prom like the LT1's. This is not the end of the world because Craig Moates has a chip that replaces the E-prom with EEprom. This eliminates you needing to buy an eprom UV eraser. Also if you visit his site (moates.net)there is a link to Tunerpro which is tuner software similar to Tunercat. Tunercat also offers software to tune Sy/Ty's.There is also some free programming software called "Promgrammer" that is out there somewhere. Datamaster has logging software for Sy/Ty but of course you'll have to pay. The ECM mask for SyTy is $58 (Kinda like the 94 LT1 code is $EE). Lots of good reading info on thirdgen.org and syty.net. These are really neat ecms, complete with boost tables and everything.

At the end of the day you (or your buddy) will have to buy some hardware and probably some software to start tuning the Syclone but you should be able to get started for under $300. The SyTy code has been well hac'd and there's a friggen table for everything.

I see the connection now sab.:) Yeah, I am going to stick with my stock pcm unless I start having problems with it.

As for the truck, I don't know the guy who owns it but he would probably be more interested in getting a chip burned than buying everything he needs to tune himself(he knows less than me). Plus, I don't have a wideband if he decided he wanted dyno time. I was basically seeing if my Tunercat would work with his computer as it is now-which it won't. I will definately pass this info along though.

Rooster, ironically, I mentioned pcmforless to my friend and said that they might be able to burn a chip. Couldn't think of any other mail order places at the time. I had to write it on the fridge in the garage so he wouldn't forget:) How much would you charge for a chip through the mail? The truck is going to be modified generously. I don't know how much constitutes "heavy", but it will need more than a basic tune.

Have your buddy take R93 up on his offer on the dyno tune. I think a mail order tune on modified turbo Syclone is really not the way to go. High boost systems can be really difficult to tune and I don't think the mail order route is going to cut it. JMHO Others may disagree.

Yeah, I'd really rather have him come down for a dyno tune. Cyclones are rather rare and I don't have enough experience with them to want to do mail order tunes.

FYI. I do dyno tuning for te same price I do mail order here in Charlotte ($150) plus $100 dyno time and hes set.

I totally agree on the dyno time. He just needs to get it running so that he can make a 4+ hour drive.

Oh, The plot thickens. If he's done a lot of mods he should trailer the car down. I would not risk a 4 hour drive on a baseline guess tune unless it's just a simple change in injector size or something. If it won't run with the original SyTy calibration then it seems that a good bit has changed.

Be careful, do not get that truck into boost without some tuning with a WB and dyno time.

I doesn't run presently because the motor is apart. I imagine that injectors will be changed. Maybe cam and heads. I will get some more details on it when I see him again.

I figured a chip to get it decently streetable to drive to get it dyno tuned. But, if he has a way, a trailer would be better. It will be a while before this project comes together regardless of what he decides but I will put the word in for you Rooster.
