UPS Sucks

Besides stating the obvious UPS is a bunch of crap. I shipped a package of x-mas presents to my parents. When they received it, it had been opened by UPS with a note on it saying damaged goods. For the short version - They dropped the package and broke a couple of coffee mugs that were inside, so they opened the package to retrieve the broken pieces. In the process of doing this they punched a hole in the present (that was x-mas wrapped) to retrieve the broken pieces and then threw them away. And, of coarse, they denied my claim on this, stating that it didn't have sufficient packing material. Here is how it was packed. Still in the manufactures cardboard box, wrapped in x-mas paper, wadds of newspaper stuffed around it, inside another shipping box with other presents in this same box. The thing is also that their were 2 bottles of wine in this same box, that had less backing material around them, yet they did not break. We had wrote on all sides of the box FRAGILE Glassware. It was very obvious that the box had been dropped on one corner that was completely caved in. In my discussions with the insurance people, I pointed out all the above facts and was told that I have to pack it as if it was going to be dropped from 6 feet. So basically telling me that they throw there **** around and they don't care (again the obvious). I even paid for extra $300 worth of insurance on the package, and they pretty much told me off. I know that since 911 the shipping laws have been revamped so that a shipping company can open a package if they suspect illegal contents (or something to that effect), but I still feel that it was an invasion of privacy for them to open my package and take out any contents they saw fit. Maybe the mug handle is all that broke off and could have been glued back on. I don't know because they never returned the broken pieces. So for warning to all that ship UPS (or any shipping company for that matter) that they don't care whatsoever about the contents of your package and the extra insurance is a scam to get more money from you. I could understand them denying the claim if their was no packing material, but after I sealed the box, I shook it and nothing was loose or rattling around in the box.

But what can you do?

I've sent thousands of dollars worth with UPS, once a package came in and box was ripped, they approved claim for $500 no probs, I never collected cuz its the shipper that gets the cash, lets just say I never heard from the shipper LOL.

Fedex is handycaped.

I called them to ship a package into texas ( international ), because I heard they were cheaper than ups. . . they sent domestic ground to pick it up and the guy wouldnt take it.

So I called again for pickup the next day ( again specifying international ), they sent the guy out and then they told me they dont ship into the us and this guy wont take it.

So I like wtf . . . get back on the phone with them ( Day 3 ) and say hey wtf . . and they say yes they do ship domestic but they do not broker any items, ( thanks for telling me on the phone btw dumb bitch ) so I spend an hour on the bloody computer printing out paperwork for this package, the guy comes ( 4 days now from when I first called ) and hes domestic ground and wont take it :irk:

Then I called UPS and threw the package at them the very next morning and it went away . . . heading hapily towards texas

To top it all off, a month later I get a bill . . . . . .turns out fedex billed my company account a monthy fee and 3 pickup charges for packages they never took. I lost several key blood vesels in my head making them reverse the charges and explaining in great detail there suck factor.

Also fedex's online tools for shipping lick fat balls. I may try purolator for domestic, I hear they are good.

I ordered some christmas presents off ebay at the end of november, seller e-mailed me dec/9th saying it was shipped. Coming from Texas and being shipped UPS I figured it wouldn't make it by christmas but the UPS guy showed up at my door thursday the 9th. It only took 1 week so I'm very pleased. :D The delivery guy even remembered my hawk. Other shipments I've waited for weeks? I guess they hire more workers this time of year. Sorry to hear about the misfortune a couple of you guys had. I'm waiting for one of my christmas presents to arrive UPS. It's a new Valentine 1 radar detector. No hurry for it though, my bird is hybernating for the winter now. :tired:

In truth, all shippers have problems... I've used UPS the most, and so I have had the most problems with UPS.... In my mind, I like FedEx better, but not by much.

I have a buddy who works the line at UPS. You don't want to hear the stories that have been relayed to me.

Piece of advice: NEVER ship wheels/tires UPS. They are used as bowling instruments. No joke.

LOL,, I just went round after round with Fedex when I had to ship a wing to Canada (international). First you need to have an account with Fedex before they'll ship international ground. I found that out the hard way. After much aggreavation with their lame online tools I finally got the thing shipped. It was cheaper by about 70.00 than UPS, but the headaches encountered along the way made it a wash in my book.

Why don't you guys use Canada Post and USPS? I can ship anything to Texas and it gets there in 6 days. Everytime. That's with regular shipping. Xpresspost will get it there in 3 days most of the time..

Drumhawk. I paid $132 to UPS when my V1 came across the border. Maybe with the dollar difference you'll get a better deal. Should have ordered it Fedex. They send you the bill later requesting you pay it. I got one about a year and a half ago. One of these days I'll pay it. :D

I'm still pissed that UPS wanted $30 for a 160° thermostat.

Here is what you get with Canada Post/USPS:

2004/12/17 03:15 Delivered to address (south Texas)
2004/12/15 13:00 Arrival in destination country
2004/12/14 14:10 Dispatched from origin country
2004/12/14 14:02 Dispatched from Canada
2004/12/14 09:33 Received/processed at sortation facility
2004/12/13 16:48 Received by Canada Post

Never ever had a problem with Canada Post. I thought all Canadians loved Canada Post and hated courier companies.

A buddy and I were selling stuff on ebay and we only used Canada Post for all our shipments to the US. It was usually $5-10 cheaper a box than any other courier company. We never had one complaint about something being broken and maybe at worst a shipment was a day or two late(that only happend a couple of times). And we must have sent 130-150 boxes out. For stuff within Canada we sent DHL because my work uses them for all their Canadian shipments and they get a KILLER price.
