Question how hard is to change cluster shaft lugs in T56 transmission?

My brothers T56 broke- no 5th, 6th, and reverse gears. I talked to a shop and a guy told me its broken cluster shaft lugs. My brother is looking to spend $1400 for rebuilt T56, but before he does that I was wondering how hard is to replace those cluster shaft lugs on T56? I have good technical background, and it’s been over a year since anything broke on my Z-28, so I am hoping to learn a bit about T56. To those, who rebuild T56's, how hard it would be to do something like this? What kind of special tools would be required? Could this be done in a day if tranny was out and all the parts/tools were available?

Any input appreciated
Tomas
