ill try to make this pretty quick and to the point. my g/f's car wont pass emissions. we figured out that cylinder #4 wasnt working. we tried everything and took it to a shop. they told us the cam is probably bad (i have a hard time believing it because its a roller cam) anyway, the motor is a 305 TBI out of a 91 camaro with roller lifters, is it possible to remove the intake/exhaust rocker so that the valve does not open and let the unburned fuel (the reason for not passing) get into the exhaust? ill take the pushrod out also. could any harm come from doing that? all i can think of is that without the lifter seated firmly on the cam, the lobe could come around and strike the lifter, or possible problems with oiling.

You might want to remove the spark plug as well.
I don't think the other 7 cylinders are going to like you otherwise.
THen again, having a little drag on the motor, is better than having
to worry about killing ignition to one cylinder.
I have no idea what the effect on emissions would be...doesn't seem
like a good idea.
Why not tune it for what it's worth? Seems like you're tearing more
down than it would take to repair the dead cylinder?

If you do that you'll be pumping all that extra fuel and air into the intake. If it lights it'll make a nasty backfire, and probably take something else with it. Your best bet would be to kill the spark going to that cyl. as well. But if you pulled the rocker and the pushrod you could accomplish that task...as stated above, the motor won't run very well, but you may still pass emmisions...with them laughing the whole time since the car will be running like junk..
just my $.02

We're fogetting about the lifter!
It would make a nice projectile at even 2000 RPM.
Just a bad idea.

sure its not a bad lifter?
can u unplug the injector?
buddy of mine did that and unplugged the spark plug. life is good for him.
let air go in and out, it will help since its PPM but O2 sensors will cause it to run ultra rich.

The TBI only has two injectors mounted in a T/B that acks like a carb...Really crummy design if you ask me. The lifter in this case would not be something to really worry about as there is a "spider web" holding the lifters in place. If I has a picture of it I would post it, but it's hard to explain. But the lifter is held down, so it would not make a huge difference if you remove it...but it couldn't hurt. Good luck
