Rice Killer87 11-18-2004, 06:09 PM nope. if u have the intake style that comes from the throttle body, breaks off into a Y shape and picks up air from in front of the rad. like the TPI cars, than u can gut the airboxes and put in a "ram air" kit,but thats about it. 91chevyz28 11-18-2004, 06:34 PM SLP make cold air kits for third gens. 1 is a single intake and the other is a dual intake, but you have to relocate the battery to the trunk. my friend has the dual setup in his '88 IROC 91 Camaro RS 11-18-2004, 06:41 PM I do not have the intake that breaks into a Y shape. Will that type of intake work on a v6? If so, can you show me a picture of all the pieces I'd need to buy? klumb15 11-18-2004, 06:47 PM can you give me a link to show where i can get the dual SLP intake... 91chevyz28 11-18-2004, 07:05 PM go to slponline.com.i just looked at the site and i did not see the dual kit,so i'm not sure if they still make it,you could always give them a call. Rice Killer87 11-18-2004, 07:07 PM I do not have the intake that breaks into a Y shape. Will that type of intake work on a v6? If so, can you show me a picture of all the pieces I'd need to buy? my buddy has an 87 Camaro w/ a 2.8 V6 in it and it has that intake the same as my TPI used to have, thats why i asked. i just gutted his airboxes a couple weeks ago, takes less than half hour from dis-assembly to re-assembly. i actually have the y-shaped "snorkle" off a 86 IROC parts car i had that id be happy to sell u,i would love to get it outta my garage and i dont really want to throw it away. you will need the plastic piece that holds the filters from a TPI car,or another V6 car that had this intake design on it (this is the piece u actually "gut"). for a picture, the easiest way is just go to www.ebaymotors.com and look in Camaro's and find an IROC on there w/ tuned port injection and look at an under hood picture. ull see the y-shaped snorkel, but u wont be able to see what the piece u need underneath it looks like. if anyone's interested in the snorkel, send me a PM and ill shoot you back a price and such. it does have 2 summit racing stickers, and 1 other sticker (forgot what it is) on it,i wont charge extra for them ( ;) ) and they could be peeled off pretty easily im sure. 91 Camaro RS 11-18-2004, 07:37 PM Alright, I think I know what you're talking about. I'd kinda like to try and this the entire assembly from the same person so I can get it all at once. JSkeet 11-18-2004, 08:27 PM www.ramairbox.com they make some sweet ass raim air dual snorkel intakes... think those are all for carb/TBI cars... I plan on getting one, if you send them your engine specs, they'll email you the kit # and price for all the needed parts, pretty expensive, but they get good reviews transxtreme 11-18-2004, 11:52 PM If you have the multi port V6 i have the entire setup your looking for. I have the Y snorkle with IAT in it, box with baffles (untouched air box) u can take the baffles out if u want. The bellows piece, MAF, and all clamps If you want it. Shoot me a PM or post back f intrested. Also have other parts for you car just ask. 91 Camaro RS 11-19-2004, 12:11 AM How do I tell if I have the multiport? Here is a picture of my engine: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v199/compuwiz1937/car/engine.jpg aklim 11-19-2004, 01:16 AM We did back to back runs of the single inlet SLP Cold Air Induction package. 20 HP difference between with and just sucking unfiltered air. Advantage, no CAI. 91 Camaro RS 11-19-2004, 10:29 AM We did back to back runs of the single inlet SLP Cold Air Induction package. 20 HP difference between with and just sucking unfiltered air. Advantage, no CAI. Will that work on a 3rd gen? I looked that package up and it says 98-02. aklim 11-19-2004, 02:14 PM Sure it will. go to www.slponline.com and click on 82-92 F-body then click on induction. Better than the stock box but still too restrictive for my needs when I am running a 383 with a large cam. 91 Camaro RS 11-19-2004, 02:55 PM Sure it will. go to www.slponline.com and click on 82-92 F-body then click on induction. It says that only fits TPI engines. klumb15 11-19-2004, 04:30 PM yea i agree, that does look quite restrictive yet, probably better than stock tho.... aklim 11-19-2004, 07:29 PM Is this (http://www.slponline.com/view_product.asp?P=21010) what you're talking about? I thought you were working with a 350 TPI I wish I was, but there is no way in hell I could afford the gas for one. aklim 11-19-2004, 08:35 PM I wish I was, but there is no way in hell I could afford the gas for one. I got about 21 hwy and 16 city with my 383 Zepher 11-20-2004, 01:03 AM You can put a K&N Cone filter at the end of your intake, basically replace your air canister. I'll get pics of my setups as soon as I get on the other computer. Here is the Dual SLP installed on my 86 Trans Am, http://www.transamws6.com/pics/transam/engine.jpg This is the K&N on my 88 Formula, http://www.transamws6.com/pics/formula/tpi-02.jpg 91 Camaro RS 11-20-2004, 01:05 AM You can put a K&N Cone filter at the end of your intake, basically replace your air canister. I don't think I have a model number for the K&N, I bought it about 4 years ago to use on my 86, then I bought the SLP unit. I might have the box in the garage, I'll check tomorrow. It is an 8x4x3. I think I paid $45 for it from Jegs. I also have this custom 4" air intake that a friend made for his 90 Formula, I traded a rear end for it. http://www.transamws6.com/pics/lt1/cai_01.jpg here it is installed on my 86, http://www.transamws6.com/pics/04-2003/86_ta_lt1b.jpg 91 Camaro RS 11-20-2004, 01:40 AM The 3" filtes where what I was just looking at. I'll go measure the air tube tomarrow and see how big if a filter I can stick in there. The air tube probably is big enough for a v6, but the filter canister is very restrictive. This is the one I'm looking at: http://kandn.com/images/l/RU-2820.jpg 91 Camaro RS 11-20-2004, 02:28 PM I just went and measured, my intake tube is 4" at the canister. If I replace the canister with a K&N cone filter, what do I do with the oxygen sensor? 91 Camaro RS 11-22-2004, 09:06 AM I just went and measured, my intake tube is 4" at the canister. If I replace the canister with a K&N cone filter, what do I do with the oxygen sensor? Anyone know? Zepher 11-22-2004, 02:07 PM Drill a hole into the air tube and put it in there. That sesnor is called the Air Intake Temp sensor. 91 Camaro RS 11-22-2004, 02:30 PM Aiight, that's what I thought. I'll have to take the intake completely off to clean out the tube of plastic shavings then. I'll look into the intake setup that transxtreme has, and I'll also look into the K&N cone filter. Thanks for all the suggestions. | ||
