I have a 87 z 5.7. No oil preasure is getting to the engine and I was wondering how hard is it really to pull out and replace the engine. Im thinking bout getting a new engine built from this shop, but they dont pull or replace engines and I dont want to pay more than I already have too... So get back to me. Thanks!

Before you go off the deep end  you need to evaluate just where your problem is. Do you know for a fact that the engine dosen't have oil pressure or are you just going off the oil pressure guage? First check to see if the oil press. sensor is pluged in "I know it sounds stupid  but you would be suprised". Second if it is pluged in see if the sensor is wet with oil where the harness plugs in, if it is change the sensor out becouse that is more than likely your problem " this has happened on my car as well as lots of others I have worked on. Let me know what you find out and if none of this solves your problem I have some other checks you can do befor you dive into an engine swap.

its not only that there is no oil preasure there is a loud annoying knocking sound inside the engine when the car is started. I was told not to drive it and it could be a possibilty of things,, so who knows???

well if there is a knock the engine probably is bad. but don't worry, an engine swap isn't that hard. all you need is an engine hoist, some hand tools, and an extra set of hands. also, if you have an automatic in the car don't forget to unbolt the convertor from the flexplate, is may sound stupid but I have seen it done and you dont want to add a trany swap to your to do list. and most of all take your time and make sure you get everything both coming out and going in, things can get broke if you get in a hurry. good luck i hope you get your car back on the road soon.

Take pictures before you disasseble anything. You might want to label lines, and hoses with numbered tape. This will help in the reassembly, which to me was the hardest part. :D

I personally would take the white one, but that's me. Or I would fix the Roc...I think the Roc's are nice cars, but if you don't want to do the motor swap then buy a newer one and have a blast driving it!!

a motor swap isnt too bad if ur an experienced car person.

when pulling the motor, here are a few things that make it a PITA:

~ theres an AIR tube taking air from the pass. side to the driver side air tubes on the exhaust manifold. it goes around the BACK of the motor and bolts on 2 places on the bellhousing, if u dont have emissions in ur area LEAVE IT OUT when u put the new motor in...i did.

~ there is a bunch of ground wires on a stud on the back of the pass. side head that is a pain to get to,especially w/ that air tube back there.

~ take the upper plenum, and the runners off before doing the bellhousing bolts, gives u more room and putting the TPI back together isnt really hard, just time consuming.

~ putting all the brackets back on the new motor is also a pain. taking pictures, etc. is a great idea. u can put most of the brackets on the new motor before putting it back in the car.

theres probably a couple more that i cant think of right now. ive pulled the motor in my car 3 times, and pulled the motor/tranny out of an 86 IROC that we used as a parts car. its been a while but if u need any help let me know.

good luck!
