black945.0 11-15-2004, 02:12 PM A race between my buddies. 1993 mustang notchback mods=4.10 gears,long tubes,h-pipe,flows,bogart lite drag wheels,back seat delete,and ummm i guess a k@n filter.lol my other buddies z28,91 swapped 305 to 350(bored over 30,355ci, comp cam(small one)filter,full exhaust,air foil,ummm,and also both vehicles are auto!,I've driven both rides,the notch reels in strong on launches,(those 4.10 gotta love them),but that z has some torque too,lol
305RSlc 11-15-2004, 02:33 PM What are the specs of the cam the Z has? Does he still have tpi? If so, has he burned a new chip for the new cam? What gears does he have out back? Is he on street tires? A little more info would be helpful. Hell just tell them to race and find out. :D

lol, right!!! anywho, the specs on the cam i don't know, all i know is a small cam, doesnt loop or surge aggresively, also he's on yokahomas all around, and i know he definetly does not have no chip installed for the cam,Its still running the same original intake(tpi fuel injected) with same ol out of the factory gears.the coupe, like i said has 4.10(i installed them last weekend, thank you very much :D ),it has 271/50/15 nitto drags, and bogart runners up front,a ram air type hood(stormin norman i believe) with a k&n filter, and full exhaust as i describe. All i know ill dust both of them very,i mean very BADDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD :)
klumb15 11-15-2004, 04:47 PM find a road, and see who wins....its hard to guess on who would win between an untuned z and a slostang....
Rice Killer87 11-15-2004, 05:54 PM the camaro is gonna win b/c a notchback mustang looks like a escort w/ a trunk.
93turbo5oh 11-15-2004, 06:58 PM the mustang will put 6 car lengths on him out of the hole and the Z will start pulling but lose by 3-4 car lengths.
black945.0 11-15-2004, 09:08 PM Well ladies and gentlemen, there was a race!it all happen like an hour/half ago! in a secluded area( too many internet cops, lol)they both lined up,the z gave up a a spin on the launch, and the notch quickly jumped out of the hole about 1 car with hout spinning, kept it all the way to the finish line.nice runs tim(z28) and john(coupe).laters
85_305 11-15-2004, 09:26 PM I figured the stang would win.. they are not slouches ;) (not saying Camaro's are.. but those REAL mustangs were quite the speed demon!)
slimdawson 11-16-2004, 12:20 PM I thought so too. I guess the Escort theory wasn't true:) I personally prefer a notch. I have 2 5.0s but they aren't notches unfortunately.
Rice Killer87 11-16-2004, 05:31 PM i hate stangs w/ a passion.
but u never know when ur gonna run into one that runs 12's or 15's...b/c they all sounds the SAME.
another thing i hate is how you cant go 30 seconds in a day w/o seeing or hearing one...if only the IROC's werent so expensive,we prob. wouldnt see as many stangs as we do...
93turbo5oh 11-16-2004, 05:46 PM impressive
Marc 85Z28 11-17-2004, 04:37 PM Because the 91 TPI were speed density systems, tuning goes a long way. And it's MUCH more important once the mods begin, like more cubes and a bigger cam. From personal experience with a friends bolt-on and cammed 350TPI, an Ed Wright tuned chip was worth 28rwhp!
I'd be willing to bet a custom tuned chip in the Z28 would turn the tables, and have that Ford seeing taillights from a bit of a distance. Why bother spending $100s to $1000s of dollars in parts if you don't tune the engine to work with the parts afterwards?

agree in what you say, but then again a practically stock 5.0 motor(97,000mi.)(stock,i mean stock heads,cam,intake,injectors,mass air,full exhaust,and 4.10) compared to a 91 camaro,precision-rebuilt 355 ci.(30.over,trw pistons) motor,swapped vortec heads,cam,air foil,full exhaust. Then again,"what if" the camaro had a tune chip,but "what if" the notch had a rebuilt 306/gt-40 heads,and a small cam with a tune chip.You see my point,it will never stop,lol :D

That is similar to my blue 5.0. .040 over KBs, iron gt40s, b cam, and other things of course:)

awsome blown 3rd gen slimdawson!,
slimdawson 11-19-2004, 09:40 AM Why thankyouverymuch:)

Nah, tuning isn't considered a "what if" thing, it's a "gimmie" :) Similar to throwing on an out of the box carb and distributor without rejetting or even setting timing. That's all the chip is.
Even if he had thrown in a 600HP SBC, it might have lost to the Stang if not tuned right.
At least let the man get the car running the way it should be before we pick on him.
