Anyone have experience with JL speakers? (not subs)

I loved my JL sub in my last car, but now I've just looking to get some better front speakers for the camaro. I'm specifically looking at the 6.5" components (TR650-CSi)

They will just be powered by my pioneer HU. Not trying to break the bank on speakers just powered by the HU.

Anyone have any experience with these speakers? Or JL speakers in general? What are your impressions?

Component speakers won't sound their best powered by an HU. With their crossover network, component speakers tend to be rather inefficient. They won't sound their best with only HU power. A co-axial speaker is usually more efficient and would be better suited for being powered off of the HU.

Would a coaxial sound better then a component system powered by just the HU? Or is it a situation in which the components sound just as good as the coaxials, but could sound better.

If that's the case I'll go components now, and think amp in the future.
If that's not the case I'll go coaxial now, then ditch them and buy a nicer set of components in the future IF i decide to amp them.

If anything the co-axials will sound a little louder compared to the components run off of the HU. Whether it sounds better or not is subjective. If quality sound is important to you go with the components and amp them when you can afford it. If the sound isn't that important to you and you don't think you'll ever want to add an amp in the future go with the co-axials.

OK, now JL speakers, anyone had experience with them?

Yeah, I had JL Audio components in my 96 GTP. I don't recall which series they were, this was around 2000, but probably the equivalent of what you are looking at. It was a component set with a 6.5 and tweeter with crossover kit to run them off one signal. I had two JL 12w4 in a Bandpass in the trunk. They worked very well for my set up and I would say they were equivalent to the Boston Acoustic components I had in another system. I haven't really been into stereo stuff in a while so sometimes the market changes, but JL audio has always produced a high quality product in my experience and I was happy with their component systems.

TR650-CSI's will work awesome off of HU power since they don't have a crossover network. The voice coil on the 6.5" has a natural high pass roll off, and there is a cap on the tweeter lead.

IMO, the TR's are an awesome entry level set of components. I've done two systems with all TR speakers off of Clarion head unit power, and they sound wicked. Very laid back, very warm sound that isn't fatiguing at all.

And I'm a HUGE JL guy. I run two 8W7's in my SQ system, and I have never been this happy about my subs. Absolutely 0 let-downs.
