Need to buy a Camaro NEED ADVICE

hello, i hope i posted in the correct forum.

i am looking for info on camaros, i would like a 98+ z28 but after reading the times of some 93-97 camaros, a lt1 would be fine. i have owned a 97 dakota 5.2L 5speed w/ the usual bolt ons and nitrous and i just arent getting what i want out of it. heads, rockers, and a cam are 2000+ dollars and i just dont wanna put anymore money into this thing. i want to part it out, return it to stock and sell it. not to mention i dislike driving a heavy azz vehicle w/ terrible traction.

anyone give me advice on what to look for when buying a camaro? manual or auto? were 98+ the first gen of 6 speeds? i am looking for any 93+ camaro that i will do the reg bolt ons, low 13s would keep me happy for a while. i will have to spend under 7k on this camaro. is buying one with 85k+ miles bad? or do these things last forever?

Re: Need to buy a Camaro NEED ADVICE

u can never predict how long it will last. Some people engines go before 100k, some after 150, some after 200...So its all how the car was taken care of and how well everything is running...

As far as 7k, you can get a nice 93-97 Z28 with under 85k....You'll have to be lucky to find a 98+ for 7k that doesnt have high miles, rebuilt title or something wrogn with it..Its possible, but it'll take time to find...ive seen some for a lil more then 7, like 8-9k for sure...

So my advice initially would be to see the car, drive it and then run a carfax or scan it if u think there might be some issues...
People say manual is more fun, faster and better. But a stalled auto isnt that bad either, i love mine!

Re: Need to buy a Camaro NEED ADVICE

'93-97 also have 6 speeds available, but autos are more common in all of the years. (You a4 *******! M6 rules!)

I had a 2000 (LS1 6 speed) and traded down to a '95 Convertible LT1 6 Speed and love it. Mods are cheap and I prefer working on the LT1. It's heavier and produces a little less hp stock, but for the money you save you can put quite a bit of power and take a stock LS1 any day.

A '95 Z28 is considered one of the most desirable years because it's the last year of OBD1, has vented opti, and hardened pushrods. It's within your price range and I'd recommend one of those!

also what were the most drastic changes between a 93 and 97 model? or is this gen. really consistant?

96 and up were OBD2 where as the 93-95 were obd1. IF you want to mod then obd1 is prefered

here is a good example of a car for sale.

I got my 95 Z28 M6 for 6300. It had 52k on it when i picked it up. So you can probably find a lt1 for 7k easily with the miles you want.

Re: Need to buy a Camaro NEED ADVICE

That is the nice thing about trying to buy a f-body. There are alot of them out there.

Some things that bring up the price: TransAMs, black, manual, TTops, leather. Lower miles (of course). THese will all up the price.

Re: Need to buy a Camaro NEED ADVICE

Well i'm 18 and I pay about 1000 for a years worth of liability, and I have a big ticket, I got busted doing a Buck thirty five on the 5 freeway, that really wasn't fun, the officer peeks int he window and my girlfirend got the first words with him, " I told him to slow down officer I swear i told him to slow down! " luckily he was a ****in baddass cop and didn't arrest me, then I got my license suspended, man long story this will be for another time, I'll see an aproxamate on shipping and let you know.
